Hotel Fontana

The location was fantastic. Right by the Trevi Fountain. The Breakfast Buffet was expansive and start time of 7am was spot on.

The Room I had was very small - I appreciate it was a single room but it was very cramped and had no windows that you could see out. The bathroom was very tiny and you could not have a shower properly.

I absolutely loved my stay at hotel Fontana. I stayed 8 days, and here are all the things I loved. The reception staff were lovely. The breakfast staff were lovely. Everyone spoke English. But they also humoured me when I tried to speak very poor Italian. The coffee was excellent. The breakfast was mostly cold cuts and hard boiled eggs, pastries, breads but I always enjoyed it. If you include it with your room which I recommend, you will avoid paying some of the highest prices known to man for Trevi restaurant breakfasts. The single room was nice, the bed was extremely comfortable. The aircon worked well, the room was serviced every day and they did a fantastic job. I didn’t find my room to be loud, but Rome generally IS loud so you have to expect street noise. I used ear plugs and couldn’t hear a thing. The walls between rooms are thick, I couldn’t hear any of my neighbours. The rooms have opening windows, so even in a single room it feels airy. The hotel was open 24 hours and as a solo traveller that was essential for me. There is an elevator, but if you can’t walk stairs make sure you request a room below third floor as the lift only goes to level 2. The area was soooo central and I felt very safe. There was an official taxi rank right out front near to the fountain. The restaurants around the hotel were expensive yes, because they charge a tourist tax (literally everywhere does- don’t be surprised) but it’s an extremely busy and populated area with lots of options, all well lit, constant police presence and genuinely my top recommendation if you are travelling solo.

Some small - rather subjective, but completely unproblematic negatives that really did not make much difference to my stay overall. The bathroom and shower were incredibly small in a Single room. But if you google showers in hotels in Rome you will see what I mean- this is normal. If you feel you are wider or taller than Marilyn Monroe, you might have a hard time with Italian showers. My recommendation is- don’t worry about it. It’s the same everywhere. Know going in that this bathroom has barely enough room for one person to turn in a circle. But- as a solo average sized human, I found it to be only a tiny inconvenience. The pillows in my room were very old. I happen to be a pillow snob so I only say this because it was obvious to me. But - I still found the bed extremely comfortable and slept extremely well every night. Oh and one last thing, my room wasn’t ready until 3pm. But I can’t imagine an early check in would have been possible even if I requested it. They are a very busy property. That’s it. Those are my only negatives. Everything else was perfect!! Thank you very much for a very nice stay. 10/10 definitely recommend.
