Matsumoto Hotel Kagetsu

Located just a 3 or 4 minute walk from the stunning Matsumoto Castle, and about a 15 minute walk from Matsumoto station. Staff were friendly and helpful, the room (twin beds) was huge with a seperate sitting room, large bed room complete with cupboards and desk, and the largest bathroom I've ever seen in a hotel! The mattresses were very comfortable, and the room was spotlessly clean. For breakfast there was a large variety of food to choose from, and was really delicious.

When having a shower, the water sprayed over the edge of the bath. I was unable to adjust it to land just in the bath. Otherwise all good.

The breakfast was really good and the rooms were clean, comfy beds.

The bathroom was a bit outdated and didn't add value to the room. However it was clean and functional.

Free shuttle service to station was welcome, although times were limited. Onsen facilities were very nice. Breakfast was good with wide selection.

We were in the Japanese style room in the annexe. We were told the futon would be put out by the maid. This only happened once in our 4 night stay. If we left them on the floor to save trouble they put them away - but we then had to get them out and make up the beds again. One of the futons was a bit stained. The tatami mats were clean, but the rest of the room was rather shabby and the flourescent lights were harsh.The drains in the bathroom smelled AWFUL! If you book to stay here go for the main building, not the annexe.

Friendly staff, good location, pleasant onsen, and a great cafe across the street. Very comfortable pillows!

I don't think I'd give four stars to this hotel. It wasn't very clean (somebody else's hair in the bathroom), horrible view, and it was very expensive (we visited during Silver Week, so it was probably because of that, but still the cost to value ratio wasn't very good). It needs renovation, you can see everything is quite old and used up (in the bathroom especially).
