Brilliant staff - they went out of their way to help, they also stored our bags before a night bus. The breakfast was amazing - really tasty! Great location and a big room.

The curtains could have been a bit thicker - the room was very light on the morning.

We received a very warm welcome. We took 2 of the rooms in this small hotel that used to be the Panama embassy . So historic rooms with antique furniture but modern, powerful showers with plentiful hot water. The location is next to a school so noisy at times during the day but quiet at night. Staff were always helpful, including booking taxis for us and serving a tasty breakfast in the conservatory area. It was a 15 minute walk to the centre. We would recommend and stay again.

We had a fantastic stay at El Consulado. Everyone at the hotel was very friendly and accommodating. We appreciated the breakfast each morning, their flexibility in helping us leave for and arrive from tours at unusual hours, and their help in arranging airport transfers, laundry service, etc. The room was big, clean, and comfortable. The location is also great, just a block from the Paso del Prado, and a short walk from the nearest teleferico station and many other things, but quiet at night. Thanks very much! We hope very much to stay again next time we have the opportunity to visit La Paz! :)

Big rooms, good hot shower and large en suite, friendly staff, good breakfast conservatory area leading onto a private garden. Breakfast wasn't bad for south america standards!

The biggest reason for the lower score is the payment. Price is quoted in dollars but if you don't have cash dollars the conversion rate they charge is 9 bolivianos to 1 usd which is essentially making you pay 20% more than advertised (actual rate is around 7 bolivianos to 1usd). If you pay with card, expect another 5% on top of that. They also can't accept dollar payment in card. We didn't have this issue anywhere else in Bolivia with the exchange rate. The second biggest issue was the noise. It's next to some sort of school, which often had drumming sessions until late in the evening and got busy early in the morning. Luckily, it wasn't too much of an issue for us as we had ear plugs. Maybe the rooms to the back are less of an issue.
