Sigiriya Jungles Resort & Spa

Beautiful complex - loved the outdoor pool and the banyan tree. Spa facilities were excellent. Very good Sri Lankan food on the buffet - breakfast in particular was excellent. We were given a complimentary dinner on check in which was a surprise, and a petting box of refreshments for our onward journey. Both lovely touches. This hotel was real highlight for us.

Not a problem for us, but the location is quite remote/not based in Sigiriya main town - we had a driver so this was not an issue but something to consider when booking.

We had a great stay at Jungles resort and Spa. The staff were extremely caring and attentive. The pool was fantastic and the service by the pool was great. The breakfast and evening buffet options were also great. There was a large catering to Western/Eastern options and a whole section dedicated to Sri Lankan foods. There was also a chilled room for delicacies, deserts, fresh fruits etc. with chefs on hand for pancakes/eggs/hoppers etc.

We felt that the prices offered for transport from the accommodation were expensive. I.e. TukTuk rates were three times higher than the rates using PickMe and taxi rates to locations were somewhat inflated. However, we found that this seems to be the standard practice across Sri Lanka when staying in hotels/resorts in that the hotel/resort adds a significant mark up to have these services on tap for tourists.

We couldn’t have been better looked after at Sigiriya Jungles Resort. My husband became very unwell during our stay, and the care shown by the team was truly exceptional. The reception manager even accompanied us to the nearest clinic, and afterwards they very kindly offered us a complimentary late check-out, lunch and plenty of water so he could rest and stay hydrated before our 6PM airport transfer. Every member of staff went far beyond what we could ever have expected to make us feel comfortable and cared for. The hotel itself is also beautiful - peaceful, immersed in nature and thoughtfully designed, with an architectural style that reminded us of Geoffrey Bawa’s. We were so disappointed to miss some of the experiences we had planned because of illness, but we will absolutely come back to enjoy them properly. And the Sri Lankan rice and curry was the best I had all week! We’re incredibly grateful to the whole team for their kindness and generosity. Thank you so much!

I liked the layout and the location wasn’t too bad

The photos used on Booking.com are obviously old. The property is tired and a bit shabby. The door to our room had a crack down the centre of it, as did our bathroom door as well. Bathroom windows were shutters that were also old and starting to split. There was no flyscreen on any of the windows and sliding doors to the balcony, enabling mosquitos in if you wanted fresh air. There were no bed nets. The shower leaked out onto the bathroom floor - we had to lay down bath towels to soak up the excess water. The pool was okay. Not a huge area for loungers. Towels were accessible from a broken wardrobe next to a drinks bar. The ground near the bar and to access the pool from that area was uneven and sort of paved with broken pavers and no real lighting. There were three path lights there but one was broken and not working. This was an accident waiting to happen - which it did. An elderly man was returning his towel and he tripped and fell in the dark, splitting open his head and getting cuts etc on his hands and legs. He was taken to hospital and received stitches. They have sort of dug out steps leading up to the pool area on a slope and again, there are no real steps or pavers making it dangerous. Overall, it’s shabby and needs a full overhaul.
