Beautiful gem in the middle of the old town. Extremely nicely renovated without having lost its charme. Everything was very clean and a lot of attention was given to details of the studio which made us feel at home immediately. There was a form to give feedback about our stay which we appreciated and which shows that they actually care about how their guests feel. Highly recommend a stay in this beautiful little gem!

Breakfast could be improved (coffee and for example giving the guests a small selection of breakfast items to choose from).

The ryokan si located in one of the most charming area of Kanazawa and is built in al old Japanese building. This makes the experience very unique and authentic. The room was big and full of amenities. There were two sleeping areas(one with tatami e one with normal bed) the kitchen and a large bathroom. Everything was very clean. We also microwave, a kettle, cooking spot, a washing machine, a coffee maker etc. We used the limone during the breakfast and it was a very nice experience. Food was nice

The finishing of the room was great, as well as the bathroom facilities. You could tell that there was a high quality finish on most things. Great place for families / large groups.

Unfortunately, when we got there they told us the washing machine (in our room) was broken. This was the main reason for picking this place. With no compensation what so ever, there was no washing done. Also the "the garden view" is basically a 1,5 metre wide courtyard with gravel. With the extremely high quality of most finishings, it's a shame that they spent hardly anything on soundproofing. We could hear literally every word that was said in the reception area as well as upstairs. So if you're staying here, don't choose the "room with garden view".

The location is incredible. Right amongst the tiny alleyways. This is not an issue for transport as there are many buses nearby but also walking distance to the gardens and palace. The room was more of a small apartment and was very comfortable and modern. Staff are very friendly and communicate well. Someone in the lane was playing piano in the afternoons. It was very relaxing. The washing machine/dryer is good but it's better to dry clothes in the bathroom overnight.

The property is located in the older district about 300m from the main road, so access is a bit tricky first time. There is a walkway with great shops in the middle of the historic village but roads leading into it. There are many shops and restaurants in the walkway area and very expensive "high end" restaurants as you walk further down the road. It only has two bedrooms upstairs and the reception lady lugged all our bags up the stairs to our room which made me feel awful. Breakfast was great and a range of Japanese and western food fruits etc. We would stay there again for the atmosphere, location to great restaurants, and out of the CBD but still in a great shopping restaurant area and close to the train.

The stay was located in the center of Higashi Chaya district. We like to take walks at night and stroll the area because it was a very beautiful neighborhood. The room was very spacious. The staff was very helpful and accommodating. The washing machine inside the room was very useful.

The heater was too hot at night. Tried to turn it off but it still feels too warm..

for foreigners, it might be hard understanding how to use hot water and toilet (everything is in Japanese). we worked it out though, and I’m sure staff will be able to help.

Utaimachi was extremely charming and perfectly located in one of the main historical neighborhoods of Kanazawa. We stayed here at the end of a month long trip and it allowed us to relax and wind-down before returning home.

Cars not allowed into road fronting the property, Taxis are 3-5 minutes walk. Stairs quite narrow. Large luggages not recommended.
