The location, the building and the bathroom

The Westervilla is an elegant, boutique Hotel housed in a historic building right next to the beautiful Westerpark and the peaceful Vredenhof Cemetery—a serene setting that suited us perfectly. However, while the exterior was meticulously restored and the interior was spotless, it felt as though very little thought went into the room's practical design. Travelers have basic, universal needs, yet this room lacked some of the essentials. For instance, there was nowhere to place our luggage except on the floor; a simple folding luggage stool would have easily solved this, but none were provided. Furthermore, despite the room description boasting a wardrobe or closet, neither existed. Instead, we were left with a single narrow clothes rack and three hangers to share between two people. There was also no chest of drawers, leaving us wondering how guests are expected to unpack—especially since the room itself was quite spacious and had plenty of layout potential. When I messaged the hotel through Booking.com to point this out, they replied: "Yes, our Deluxe Double Room includes a wardrobe, along with additional cloth racks and hangers for your convenience." I looked around the room again and still couldn't find them. It made me wonder if I needed a virtual reality headset just to see this invisible furniture.

The convenience of checking in with an app that unlocks the doors! Our room Zondag was very cute and cozy. Very conveniant to be able to park our car there too!

I personally missed a fridge. Since the hotel does not offer any breakfast (which I would recommend it did since there is nothing close by to have breakfast) at least it could have a fridge so guests can bring their own breakfast. I also got cold at night but there were no extra blankets anywhere. Extra pillos and blankets would have been nice. We didn’t encounter any staff so no one to ask about our stay when we left which made it quite impersonal.

Staff were very kind to let us make an early check in due to rain when we came over on a motorcycle. Thanks! It allowed us to relax in the room until the rain was over and enjoy the rest of the day. The room was clean and spacious. The bed was really comfortable.

The location is really nice. A short walk through a park to the train station. local amenities like shops are near by. The room itself is really nice, good standard of decoration, coffee machine, kettle etc. all very good

We had a few issues. Firstly the check in process didnt work. The staff were excellent and arranged for keys to be put in a lockable box. This was all communicated through the booking.com app. So in a bad situation, the staff were great. The bathroom flooded. The drains were not clear and when having a shower, it filled higher than the step, this then flooded the bathroom and the flooring. I was staying with my son, the bed was huge which was great. That said, we slept awfully on the first night, constantly itching. When we woke, there was over 30 insect bites on my son. It was awful. I reached out to the team, again, the staff were really supportive and the second night was much better and had a good nights sleep, but... we shouldn't have to complain to get the room cleaned properly in the first place.
