Wanting to explore the local area around Hamtramck / Detroit, we found Karol's listing as the perfect home base for our stay. Conveniently located for the occasion, and truly felt like a home away from home. Wonderfully quiet neighbourhood! and had all the accommodations we needed. Will be back again for the next round of touring in the area!

Loved this little house!! The eclectic array and mediums of art is impressive. We loved reading the booklet provided by the host, Karol, describing the artwork and stories behind it. This house is tucked away in Hamtramck neighborhood and is a gem! We appreciated all the hard work and attention to detail that went into renovating the house. You are in a working class neighborhood rich in multiple cultures and within a short drive to major events around Detroit. We will absolutely rent this place again next time we are in Detroit!

The property was clean and comfortable with everything you need for your stay. There was lots of art work and quirky little touches. The neighbourhood was quiet and people at the nearby cafes and whisky in the jar were very friendly and chatted with us.

We loved the place. Nice neighborhood. Our host was super helpful and prompt. Clean with little extras I haven't seen at other rentals I've stayed in. Would definitely recommend. Thank you to our host!

Karol's place was perfect for our quick one night stay. The house is just as described in the listing and had many personal touches that were fun to explore. Would definitely stay here again!

Absolutely fantastic stay. The house is situated in such a culturally diverse area. I can tell the time and effort that went into creating such a unique space. The area is close to everything Detroit has to offer, and the neighborhood is calm and quiet. There is plenty of parking. I will be staying here again if I’m ever back in Detroit!

I had booked this trip last minute and through a platform that isn't typically my first preference. I had not been expecting much due to the low price. I hadn't been expecting much after pulling up to the home. It was to be a quick trip and I only cared about being near our venue. I was blown away by the vacation inside this hidden gem! The host Karol shares his adventerous life as well as the the neighborhoods incredible history. Through books, photos, and various items in the home Karol told this great story of his family and the connection to the area. I found a new appreciate for our home that night. Beautifully decorated in art he's collected and amazing things from his Mother. Amazing guide book with incredible recommendations. Comfortable beds and plenty of everything you need in the home for a short stay. I've not wanted to meet hosts more!

My wife, 12-year-old son, and I LOVED our stay at Karol's! The location was great, the quirky artful interior was awesome, and all of the amenities were outstanding. Parking was easy both on the street or in the space out back, and the proximity to whatever we were interested in doing was never to large. We're already looking at returning for another stay this fall. 5 stars all the way!!!

The space was great for our short stay. The neighborhood/parking did not give us the best feeling. Some creaking noises in the middle of the night along with a breezeway door and window that did not lock led to some safety concerns. Overall it was a fine place to stay but wouldn’t stay for long.

Property was exactly as described. Read reviews that some had issue with the coded door locks, but we had no problems. Street parking was full so we went down the alley and parked behind the house. We stayed in March and got 7” of snow that evening, but accessing the rear parking was no problem even in those conditions. Great communication with owner prior to our stay. Would/will be staying again in the future

Place was very cozy and bigger than we expected. Neighborhood was great. Parking is street parking, but we never had a problem finding a parking spot near the house. House was clean and included everything we needed. Thanks!

Very good experience.

We stayed just one night while visiting for a hockey game. Everything was great and as described! We initially thought it was just street parking, but then we found the spot behind the house in the alley.

Comfortable, clean home. Host was prompt to reply. Managed to get parking every time we came back, but there was a spot in the back if needed. Great location. Great price. Will definitely stay again.

I enjoyed my stay at this place. It’s unique with all of the art I loved the front door. It’s nice that there is a parking spot behind the property from the alley. The bathroom is really pretty and the shower gets very hot. The beds were comfy and the heater works so it’s really all I needed. I really only slept here we didn’t hang out much. My only complaint is there are no tv’s in the house. There is the projector which is cool but it’s not as easy as turning on a tv. Just if you aren’t hanging there for a bit you don’t really want to fiddle with it I just used my laptop. But overall for the area I think it’s a great choice!

I love being part of a neighbourhood..

The home was beautiful and in a pretty quiet neighborhood (at least it was during our stay). It's in a decent spot with quite a few food places (and a good variety at that) and things to do. The home it self is gorgeous with nice art and a very comfortable vibe to it.

Everything I could have asked for for my first trip. Everything went smoothly and we really enjoyed the property. Definitely will keep this one in mind the next time I'm in town. Absolutely loved it.

This house was perfect for us . We were within 15 minutes or less of every place we wanted to go. We each had our own area to ourselves and could meet in the kitchen or living room for together time. We always had close parking and the host was very quick to respond to any questions.

I could automatically tell that the person owning the property was artistic and quirky. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the property. It was very clean and had everything I needed. The bed and pillows were very comfortable and smelled good, too! I used the second bedroom as my "office" because it had a nice desk in it. I was able to conduct my online meetings while there. There are restaurants within walking distance and I went to the Wingfellas twice and Fat Salmon once, based on the recommendations left in the pamphlet that was prepared. The neighborhood is older and needs some cleaning. I felt safe and the bus stop was very close. I actually took the bus from the airport, which saved a lot of money. It took a little longer to get there, but I was in no rush and had time. I hope everyone has a great experienced just as I did!!

We loved the neighborhood! Everyone was so friendly. It was great hanging out on the front porch. Everything was extremely clean. The kitchen was well equipped. There was fun art throughout the place, all with interesting stories behind them. The electronics were a bit complicated, but we were able to figure it out without any huge issues, if you are afraid of technology and want to watch tv while you are here you may struggle. Overall we would definitely return here.

Check in process was confusing, I would consider rewording the property intro. Host took over an hour to get back to us regarding check in code while we were locked out. We contacted VRBO and they could not get in touch with the host. The VRBO agent suggested that we text the host to try and get a hold of him….not a great suggestion on their end. Once we got a hold of the host we were able to get into the property, and everything was fine. At the end of our evening there was an issue with the keypad code and we were locked out. It was about 2am and we were, host was asleep and unreachable (makes sense due to the time). We contacted VRBO, they could not get a hold of the property manager due to the time. The VRBO agent had no other suggestions and would not offer us a refund or a hotel for the night. We finally got a hold of the host, there seemed to be an issue with the keypad as the codes he used to reset were not working either. Finally we got in and were able to go to sleep. We spent over an hour locked out of the property in the afternoon and another hour at night. I understand there’s only so much the host could do on their end, however I am disappointed with the customer service from VRBO.

The house was incredibly decorated and you can tell the owner put a lot of work into redoing it. When you were driving to the house, the area does look questionable, but it's a blue collar area with great people in it. It was very safe. The not so positive Communication with the owner on the vrbo app was not great. The day before arrival, I messaged him on the app to ask for the code to enter home. He said he reached out to me and I never gave him a # to make a code on the door. I checked all of my emails and all of the messages on vrbo there was no email. After we drove 9 hours, my husband desperately needed to use the bathroom and we couldn't get in. The code we gave to him to make it our code for the door, wasn't working. I called him twice at work, I text messaged him and then messaged on the app. He did profusely apologize, said he was at work and that the app wasn't working. It was extremely frustrating when I TRIED to communicate to make check in process go smoothly. Besides that fact, everything was great about this house. When reading through other reviews, I noticed that this seems to be a common occurrence. I feel like since the owner did such an excellent job at redoing the house as well as decorating it, it might be good to hire an assistant to handle getting the people the codes to come in. Besides that, we had no complaints. I mention this because it's something you want to stay on top of so that the situation doesn't happen to you.

Nice place to land in between events.

Love this little house. It’s in a perfect location and has everything you need to be comfortable. The electronics are a little difficult to work sometimes but other than that, it’s a nice place. This will be my regular hang out when I visit in the future.
