Derwent House

The staff were lovely and looked after us so well. Nothing was too much trouble. We had a suite and we loved the quirkiness of it. Didn’t get time to have a dip in the pool but we enjoyed the jacuzzi.

There was absolutely nothing not to like.

The location of this Boutique Hotel was very good, very close in, could walk to the central district if you're fit. I walked to the Company Gardens, which took about 25 minutes. You would need an Uber ride to places like the V&A Waterfront. Some great restaurants within a few minutes walk. We stayed in the 'apartment'. This is a bedroom & separate living room, plus a kitchenette. Quite spacious. My daughter appreciated the additional space as she needed to do some work. Both rooms had a balcony, from the bedroom balcony Table Mountain could be seen. Table Mountain about a 6 minute drive. Breakfast was outstanding. Everything fresh, many options and a cooked to order menu. Something for everyone. The staff were most polite and helpful. Managers advised us on some places we wanted to visit. When we arrived back in the evenings, beds prepared, carafe of cold water on bedside table, slippers placed on a little mat next to bed. Heaters on (early spring, it can be a bit cool overnight). We also liked that in the evenings a selection of wines were placed in the dining area, where guests can pour a small carafe of wine. It was an honor system, you simple made a note of what you had. There is a large refrigerator filled with a wide range of drinks, help yourself 24 hours a day, just make a note so it could be added to the room charge. So many wonderful touches in Derwent House, a place I would return to without hesitation. Safe area. This is a small hotel, where every guest is treated with utmost respect & addressed by name. Highly recommended.

Nothing to dislike.

The staff were first class - very helpful and friendly. The main building was welcoming and comfortable. The pool area good and a nice sun trap although overlooked by adjacent building, but it is a city hotel and so should be expected. Breakfast was good. The area felt safe, and close to good restaurants and bars.

My room (5) was small and in need of a bit of tlc. The bed was comfortable and a good size, however very little room for 2 people with cases etc. There was no window that could be left without curtains drawn unless you like people seeing you, and the main glass door opened directly onto the pool area and sun lounge occupiers. No fridge in the room. My friends had rooms that were better arranged and were better maintained. The bathroom was a little small but was ok for a short stay and has hair and shower toiletries.
