Moulin de l'Abbaye

Moulin de L'Abbaye is located right on the river in the heart of Brantome. It is a beautiful little town and having spent time in the town on this occasion and before, I would say this is easily the best location. We had booked a room with a river view. On our arrival after a 5-hour hot and sweaty drive, we checked in only to find that the wonderful staff had upgraded us to a 'terrace room'. I thought that was great - till I actually saw the room and the terrace, when I was completely blown away! The room looked out over the hotel's grounds, including the water wheel and the weir and the terrace gave a 270 degree view of the Abbaye, the river, weir and the town. It really was like an eagle's nest and we felt very lucky indeed. The room itself was beautifully done and had a very good shower and all the other facilities you'd expect like coffee-making, writing desk, as well as a little sitting area. The terrace had a hot tub! In addition where were a couple of very comfortable loungers and a table and chairs to boot. Really fabulous. Breakfasts were magic and the coffee served is also first rate. Staff were all lovely and so helpful. We really felt as if we were being treated all the time.

The hotel is very difficult to fault!

Beautiful location. The front desk staff are excellent.

The host at breakfast was not very kind and did not represent a relais chateaux. The other staff were really sweet, so glad for all of them although younger.
