I loved the location and the overall experience of the hotel. The staff were so friendly. I would say my highlight was the Tea Ceremony. This is an optional extra for ¥3,000 and is well worth the money. The host of the tea ceremony & Ryokan tour was polite, knowledgeable, patient, and had flawless English. I would recommend it to anyone. My room was also amazing and the breakfast was exceptional.
The only thing I wish I'd known in advance was that the front door is locked at 11pm and you have to buzz for the door to open afterwards. However, I understand this is the case in any Ryokan and the staff were incredibly accommodating of me if I stayed out beyond this time. This doesn't affect my overall rating or the enjoyment of the stay - I would still recommend staying here to anyone visiting Kyoto!

Beautiful garden, very much feels like you’re staying in the past. The entire staff was so friendly, and the traditional breakfast was also wonderful.
We knew we were getting the traditional futons but didn’t really know what to expect. Not recommended for those that have trouble sleeping

The location was on a quiet street. All of the staff were great.
There was a lot I didn’t like. It was an old Ryokan and needed updating and a deep cleaning. Stains on the carpets and walls. The smells at 6 am from the kitchen were bad. Stinky fish. Breakfast came to our room ice cold every morning with warm coffee. I’ve stayed at other Ryokans and this one was the worst.
