I went to Spoleto to work on a book and this apartment was ideal. Quiet but centrally located. Comfortable and spacious. The main room features a well-stocked kitchen and a long table that served as my work station and dining room. The bonus is the art on the walls, original drawings by the great minimalist, Sol LeWitt. My wife joined me after a week and was enchanted as well. I'd stay there again in a heartbeat! Highly recommended.

Sophie was very professional, helpful and responsive to work with. She sorted out the parking situation very well for us. We didn’t have the opportunity to use the outdoor spaces but in the warmer months they would be a big plus. I will be pleased to recommend the property to friends.

Excellent experience, all pleasant. A few hundred Euros for interventions on the floor, on the old dumpster and on the entrance door would make this house a charm.

Host went out of her way to ensure we could check in even though we arrived late. She responded quickly when we had a query.
The property is really well equipped with pleasant furnishing. The courtyard and sun terrace were great to have available. House was cool in summer heat and courtyard shady. Location was quiet and peaceful.
Spoleto is a lovely small town, not very busy with tourists, but interesting places to explore. Train line gives access to other towns including Assisi and Perugia. There are some great hillside walks among trees from Spoleto into the hills.
Property location is just nearby a town square with shops where you can get supplies (including local cheeses, hams, salami, wine ...).
In summary, we really enjoyed trying local food, exploring Spoleto and other towns via rail, a walk in the hill, relaxing and exploring Spoleto and resting in the peaceful property. We stayed for a week, but would have enjoyed staying longer!

Just right for our family of 5 adults, the 2 ample rooms + kitchen and dining room in the larger room, + the central location, + the parking permit Sophie provided were perfect. Spoleto is a wonderful town to discover, with great hiking and streams and restaurants nearby

We used the Artist's Retreat as a base for doing some of the woodland walks around Spoleto. Despite unseasonably wet weather - or maybe even because of it - the charms of Spoleto felt unspoilt and ours to enjoy.
The apartment itself is a tasteful mix of the old and the new. It also has a really well-equipped kitchen (love those sharp knives!). In fact, the quality and availability of the local produce and wine (for example, lovely fresh cima di rapa from the shop round the corner), and the attraction of the kitchen, meant we happily settled for home-cooking for three out of the four nights.
The apartment itself is spacious and well maintained. It also has an efficient central heating system and hot water system - so it would presumably make a good choice all-year round. We also enjoyed the original artworks and ceramics in the apartment.
It has a small terraced area outside with chairs - not that we got a chance to use it (instead, we made full use of the appartment's range of umbrellas).
The owner Sophie is attentive but discreet. She obviously wanted to make sure we had everything we needed to make our stay in Spoleto a rewarding one - starting with a nice bottle of local white wine.
We have no hesitation in recommending the Artist's Retreat to fellow travellers.
NB - The Ponte delle Torre viaduct is still under repair following the 2016 earthquake. Walks that rely on the viaduct for access currently require a short diversion.

Perfect location for a weeks stay. Private, quiet and clean.

The apartment is beautiful, with antiques and comfortable furnishings. The living and kitchen space was perfect for our group of four to prepare meals and sit around a large dining table. There are several courtyards, which we enjoyed. The apartment is quiet yet located near the historic sites, restaurants and stores. Spoleto is an interesting city to explore on foot.

This is a great apartment near the city center and within walking distance of beautiful piazzas, great restaurants and awe-inspiring architecture. We drove and parking is a challenge but overall it was an ideal place for our three days in Spoleto.

We had a wonderful experience from start to finish. Our host Sophie was helpful from start to finish, responding to questions quickly and always following up on any issues (not that there were many!). She kindly arranged for a mid stay housecleaning at a very reasonable price. The kitchen is well equipped and the master bathroom spacious. Loved having not only a full sized washing machine but a full sized dryer as well. Location is excellent and we really appreciated having a parking pass so we could access the restricted parking areas. A great experience.

Super location and authentic apartment in Spoleto.
Just perfect. Delightful apartment, well priced and easy to navigate. In the heart of Spoleto on a charming, narrow street, 5 mins from the Rocca. Easily would stay here again. The owner was gracious, accessible, and fluent in both English and Italian.

We felt at home in the Artist’s Retreat. The amenities were modern-good heating system since it was cold when we were there. Nice to have a washer and dryer. The kitchen had a dishwasher. I thought the place was really cool with the decorative beamed ceilings and stone floors so homey. I especially enjoyed the espresso maker. We could walk everywhere. We walked around the Rocha nightly. The quality restaurants in this area are a food lovers nirvana.

Quaint and Quiet
Unfortunately our stay in Spoleto coincided with several earthquakes, so all the churches were closed, many roads were blocked, and the town was very quiet. One cannot park at the apartment so must park in a parking garage and haul bags uphill to the flat. The apartment itself is very quaint and old-fashioned but with some modern conveniences like a dishwasher. The furnace works very well. Both bathrooms are good. The kitchen is adequately equipped, although when I mentioned to the landlady the need for a toaster, she immediately said she would buy one. The apartment is clean but the kitchen area is a bit disorganized. Beds were comfortable. The location is very convenient to tour the city which is quite lovely. We also recommend visiting hill towns like Todi and Montefalco while in Spoleto. The landlady Sophie is American by birth and was very accommodating when we decided to cut our stay short by one night because of all the closures. If you don't need to park nearby and don't need modern, you will enjoy this property!

The apartment was lovely and in a central location.
We were very impressed with the apartment. It is very well furnished with all the necessary amenities and Sophie is a great host who was on hand to help and advise us when called upon. We would recommend it as a great place to stay.

Fantastic stay
Our stay at the Artist's Retreat could not have been better. The place is gorgeous, extremely well-equipped, large and perfectly located. Sophie is also great to work with. Our time in Spoleto was incredible and this beautiful apartment made it all the more so. We're already looking forward to a return visit. Spoleto is a magical place and you won't find a better place to stay than this apartment.

Wonderful apartment, perfect location & patient host
After getting very lost on our way from Rome to Spoleto, our host Sophie, patiently waited for our arrival. After multiple calls to Sophie for directions, we finally made it to the parking lot where she met us. She lives 1/2 hour from the apartment and was very gracious about sticking around for 2 extra hours to get us settled.
My husband and I were two cranky travelers by the time we arrived, but the moment we walked through the oversized ancient wooden door, all of our troubles melted away! The apartment is beautifully rustic, with a well appointed kitchen, and a large master bedroom with and a super comfortable bed & pillows. The art was wonderful, the lighting fantastic, the heating worked, and the shower was strong. With the bonus of a washer / dryer and a 2nd bathroomit, this apartment was near perfect. We were thrilled to call this home for the next 5 days.
The location was great ... Walkable to everything, with an unexpected modern caffe (caffè letterario) just a few doors down. The only only downside (with Spoleto, not this apartment), is the parking. You need to park in a municipal lot, that is about a 15 minute walk, since cars are restricted in the main town unless you have a resident pass. That would not stop us from renting this wonderful property again.

Lovely apartment in centre of Spoleto
Our family of 4, including 2 teenage children, spent a few days in Spoleto and felt fortunate to have the opportunity to stay in this lovely apartment. It was very comfortable for all of us, with 2 bathrooms, and a spacious kitchen/dining/living area. The apartment was very clean and our host Sophie was friendly and hospitable. Spoleto is a beautiful town and it was nice to garage the car in a municipal parking lot and explore the town on foot. The apartment is centrally located and near one of the underground pedestrian passageways that help transport pedestrians around Spoleto. We enjoyed a treat (twice!) at Gelateria I Scream on Corso Garibaldi. We also explored the surrounding areas, including hiking on one of the many trails in the region. Well worth a visit.

Peace and comfort in the heart of the old town
A wonderful apartment, artfully decorated, bringing the splendid art history of the town into focus. The kitchen area is stunning - marble tops - a good oven and cooking equipment. Great osterias also close by - particularly recommend Osteria dell'Matto and Barcaccia, both a minute walk and just off the Piazza Mercato. The apartment is perfectly located, in the heart of the old town and yet a 3 minute walk from La Rocca from where you can walk across the aqueduct onto Monteluco for stunning scenery and wildlife. Free parking can be found by the IP petrol station at the bottom of the hill.

Stunning apartment and location!
This apartment is gorgeous! The rooms are stunning as they are charming and the open kitchen is a perfect room for relaxing in comfort. It is clean and quiet and provides everything you might need for your stay. There is a lovely, private courtyard which is perfect for reading or for enjoying a meal. Located in the heart of the old town, it is easy walking distance to the Piazza Mercato. Surrounded by medieval buildings, cobblestone streets and an ancient fountain you can find everything you might want from cafes, gelaterias and wonderful shops with wine, cheese and other local foods. It is easy walking distance to Spoleto’s amazing historic sites, theatrical and musical events and has a choice of many good restaurants. Beyond that, it is a good base for exploring Umbria with all of its fascinating history, charming towns, olive groves and vineyards.
Sophie is warm, welcoming and incredibly helpful hostess. You will not want to leave!
