The view was brilliant but the windows were really quite dirty I don't know if it was because it was the end of the season. I cleaned hotel rooms in the 1980's and there were a couple of places that were a bit dirty, such as the bathroom skirting boards. But the suite was really nice, although the sofa is really uncomfortable and the armchairs need the seating pads replaced. A few cushions may be a good idea
It is a real shame that you can't sit outside

Location , public areas in the hotel were opulent and historic
Breakfast was very disappointing,.The room was big and adequate, but tired
PLEASE replace the net curtains as they were dirty and full of tears!!!! This spoilt the ambience of the room.!

The location was nice. The evening meals perfect. It was easy to find and access was good.
Parking was very hit and miss. I understand that at the time the place was built, car parking wasn't high on the list of priorities. But you'd have thought after a passage of a hundred years, someone might have given it some consideration.
The hotel was a little shabby round the edges. It was clean but I said to my partner, "it looks like it's been done up recently on the cheap. They've filled in a few holes and papered over the cracks". In my opinion they didn't spend enough. And on doing a little research while we were there, my partner discovered that's exactly what they did. In the communal areas you could see that damp is an issue, though it wasn't visible in the room we occupied. Wallpaper was coming away from the walls and badly filled holes were becoming holes once again. The paint job was a quick single coat all round and that'll do.
The room was ok. It's clearly an old building but I think something could have been done about the squeaky floorboards. Every footstep irritated. The room layout was ridiculous. The wardrobe really ought to be in the bedroom and the tea making things shouldn't be in the bedroom, there was a living room where that could have been located.
The living room area could have been a little more cheery. There was a cheap two seater sofa with a matchingly cheap chair. They could have spent a little more or a little wiser on those than the tat we got. The lighting in there was either full on sunburst or pitch black. What price a tasteful lamp, i wonder?
The windows were filthy, not just a light coating but season long dirt.
Breakfast was ok, no more than that. One got the feeling that because we were staying there at the end of the season the cook really had had enough of cooking bacon etc everyday. Incidentally, mushrooms cooked in water have the texture and taste of week old winkles.
The staff were ok. Twice I bumped into the handyman.
