Château de Courban and Spa Nuxe

The staff are fantastic, very elegant and took care of us very well in a beautiful establishment.

My only gripe is with myself, we had booked this stay as a layover on our way back to the UK from Nice. Which meant we arrived very late and had to head off bright an early in the morning. Knowing what I know how it would have been wonderful and must more justified to spend a few nights here and really embrace the experience. Lesson learnt for the next time we visit. One tiny thing worth noting - Because we arrived late (around 8:30pm) and gotten to out room, the window was open which was a nice touch for the fresh country air to permeate the room for our arrival. The only downside to this was we were finding a lot of flies attacking us, small thing but easily avoidable if you are aware it was a small issue for us.

The room was beautiful and quite opulent with traditional décor in keeping with the building. It was clear that the whole establishment benefits from a personal touch with many nice additions. The restaurant and service were impeccable but the prices are premium and might catch you by surprise, especially the wine (in our opinion) if you have not researched it first. Having said that, the food was superb and a real treat with intense flavours. The pigeon we had was excellent.

Although beautiful, we thought the wine was a little overpriced, even by fine dining standards, which, we are fortunate enough to enjoy several times a year.

Room had some signs it wasn’t cleaned thoroughly in some areas (harder to reach spots) cob webs, dust. Room a little dated also with the tv. This is nitpicking overall the room was comfortable for a nights stay.

Nice place, just what you expect when selecting this “manor-style” accommodation. The decoration of our room was charming, in sweet and relaxing colors. Bedding was of high quality, really top. The bed was just perfect, not too soft, not too hard.

We regret the heating was not switched-on before our arrival and, in fact, the heating did not work. So we experienced a pretty cold room in this rather fresh end of April. When emptying the bath tub we observed some water on the floor due to a leak in the water evacuation piping. Upon arrival, the half-empty water surface in the middle of the yard was dirty so the first impression was not so positive. Dog’s excrement in the gravel in the garden is a matter of more discipline by the guests accompanied by their dog but also requires more attention by the staff. This place has a gastronomic restaurant but we found sending four reminders inviting not to forget to book a table too pushy, certainly not pleasant. And asking again when checking-in whether we REALLY do not intend to book for the dinner was superfluous.
