Staff and quality of service. Great food.

Lovely genuinely old decor, with interesting artifacts such as a deep well with escape tunnel to the Church across the road! cozy atmosphere, large room. Parking was easy and plentiful, it's close to both Ashdown forest and major towns in the area.
No cask beer, as they had a problem with cellar equipment they said, so had to have Guinness, which to be fair was good and properly poured. They forgot my eggs and veg for the Full vegetarian breakfast, but brought them promptly when I told them(minor issues). The huge double bed / mattress was a little tired itself! OK for one person though. Food is rather quickly delivered, so is probably frozen /heated - Steak and kidney pie was nice but mash was a bit meh!

We had a minor issue at check-in, but the staff clearly explained the situation. The room was quite warm, but we found a fan in the wardrobe, and the team kindly offered us an extra one. Despite facing the main road, Room 6 was incredibly quiet. The bed was very comfortable, the decor was lovely, and the breakfast was excellent. All staff were very friendly and chatty.

Parking was easy, conveniently located
Both the meal in the evening and the breakfast in the following morning were apauling, the waitress got our order wrong, the garlic bread was cold and uncooked and, we had to return the fry’s. In the morning I had a full English breakfast, but the bacon was dry and almost inedible as were the mushrooms, they had clearly been hanging around for a very long time.
