Hotel Metropole

Its location in the Rossio district was perfect. Room was huge. Building is old and has character. The staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was excellent.

The room had a “safe”, but there was no lock on it.

The entrance to the hotel is a little underwhelming, but beyond that the hotel was very good. This is a relatively small hotel in a brilliant location that I would certainly recommend if your stay were principally to experience the history and culture of the city. The hotel is situated on one of the main squares, so in the main heart of older Lisbon. It is a short stroll to the waterfront with a very varied choice of eateries and bars. Lisbon is seriously hilly, it's like Valetta on steroids! The breakfast in the hotel is buffet style. It has a very good range of foods available. There were options for all albeit continental style. Our room was of a good size, with a desk, table and chair and large wardrope with drawers. There was certainly plenty of storage. The bathroom was exceptional. Very large with a bath with shower, toilet and bidet and accompanying toiletries. The room and bathroom were very clean. The bed was very comfortable and the room quiet. I can thoroughly recommend this hotel . Transport is nearby, buses, trams and railway. Ubers are easily available, as are a multitude of tuk-tuks. You will need these unless you are built like a mountain goat and don't mind arriving all sweaty at the top of the hills. A definite if you are going to visit the castle or catch Tram 28 from the top. A wonderful city. Felt very safe and relaxed for a city.
