Azul Eco Hotel

It was clean enough for an old property. The view from the balcony was nice. The beach was lovely. The food was decent and sufficient (lots of melon) the staff was very active during meal times with picking up plates and setting up tables. Some kind of entertainment scheduled for every night, karaoke, mini disco, live music, even Cretan night in Sundays. Bus station 10 min away to go to Rethymno, the return station is right in front of the hotel. Bus tickets at the supermarket next to the hotel. Playground for kids can’t be used during the day, no real shade except a small tree that covers a small part of the climbing section.

It is an old property and it shows, despite the newer furniture in the rooms. The back rooms face a land wall with plants growing on it, the front rooms can be alley walk view or pool view but both with show sound from 21 to 23:00 every night. The drinks are bad, we mostly drank water and bought anything else from the supermarket next to the hotel. The walk to the beach and back is tiresome, but it is worth it. I did not feel the pools were quite ok for the kid. He had a terrible case of contact dermatitis about 2 days after arrival (still don’t know what caused it). A lot of traffic on the way to Rethymno.

Ho apprezzato la presenza delle piscine e degli ombrelloni inclusi con una consumazione, oltre alla vicinanza alla spiaggia (anche se semplice). La posizione è comoda per raggiungere Rethymno, che è una cittadina molto carina, e in generale l’hotel si trova a metà strada tra Heraklion e l’ovest dell’isola, quindi abbastanza strategico per muoversi.

Purtroppo l’odore di fogna era spesso presente, anche nella zona piscina. Il cibo era sufficiente, con una colazione discreta ma nel complesso senza troppi sapori. Le camere hanno muri sottili, i bagni non hanno ventole e si sentono facilmente i rumori delle stanze vicine o delle porte che sbattono. Inoltre, la strada da attraversare per andare in spiaggia è un po’ pericolosa per bambini. In generale mancavano attività serali e intrattenimento.
