I read incredible review after another, and it was all true. WOW! Check in was wonderful. It was a rainy week and they provided umbrellas. The luggage storage was prompt and safe. The rooms were huge for any city standard, but particularly for NYC. It was sparkling clean and the linens and towels were fresh and new. The location is ideal for reaching all points in the city. Aveda bath amenities. Good food options at the hotel and within a couple of blocks. The friendliest, happiest, nicest staff in every department. I honestly cannot say enough good things about this hotel. It did not disappoint, was absolutely better than any expectation and made me want to come back to NYC much sooner. I told the check out attendant I hated to leave the great review because I am afraid everyone will discover this hidden jewel and it will be fully booked for my next trip!

We stay at the San Carlos every time we visit Manhattan - several times each year. We always find a warm welcome here, and we enjoy the spacious junior suites, when available.

We drive 15 hour car and w came here at 10:00 a.m. and chking time is 3:00 p.m. i and my children 6 hour wait for room.
And not clean room. Under chair i find old socks pair. This is terrible

This location was amazing. Super close to the subway and great restaurants everywhere around it. Walking distance to times square, 5th avenue, saint Patricks cathedral. The beds were extremely comfortable. Nice and quiet too. I would stay again. Great value!

We had a great time at the San Carlos. It’s in a great location & the space you get is amazing for NYC. It’s a little older hotel but clean & the staff is helpful & friendly. We’d definitely stay there again

Wonderful lobby, staff, and beds/bedding. Rooms and bathrooms in great condition. Had issues with the A/C going out, and the shower drain clogging. Both reported and fixed asap, responsiveness from staff was awesome.

Definitely the best hotel I've stayed in Manhatan. Spacious room, mini fridge, microwave, comfortable bed and nice pillows. Walking distance to restaurants, shops, times square and subway station. Very friendly and professional staff. Loved everything about this hotel.

Great location, amazingly spacious by non NYC standards even, huge king bed, and well maintained.
Also, try the Indian restaurant downstairs -- it's excellent!!

The room we had was quite large by NYC standards and best of all it had a coffee maker, again a rarity in the City. The Aveda products were a treat.

The room was acceptable for our short 3-night stay and the staff was extremely welcoming and helpful. Other than the following concerns, all else was fine. The heating system actually blew cool air despite the thermostat setting of 71; setting it to 72 addressed the problem, but it was necessary to lower it at night to avoid the dry air. While it was nice to have a small refrigerator, microwave, and coffee maker, the coffee cups were too small for adult hands. Finally, the shower had low water pressure. We would consider staying there again provided our usual choices are unavailable.

We enjoyed our stay at the San Carlos. It’s conveniently located in midtown Manhattan, easy walk to Rockefeller Center and close to the subway, shops, cafés, restaurants, and pharmacies. We needed to see a doctor during our stay and there was a CityMD clinic one block away. Our room was a good size, very clean and comfortable - we had a suite with a king bed in the bedroom and a pull-out bed for our kids in the outer room. There’s a small exercise room on the 3rd floor with treadmills and a weight machine. The staff were friendly and helpful, and they provided umbrellas to borrow when it rained.

We enjoyed our stay at the San Carlos Hotel in NYC. The hotel is in a great midtown location within walking distance of restaurants, bars and shopping. It’s also only about a 10 minute walk to the Rockefeller Center and Broadway.
The hotel is also connected to the Spice Symphony restaurant which is one of the better Indian restaurants in the city.
We stayed in a deluxe king bed room which had a fridge, microwave and small kitchenette area. The room also had a safe.
One of the many things we loved was the size of the room. 350 sq ft for a reasonable price is a rarity in NYC! The two concierge’s we met were both outstanding and very helpful. The hotel maybe a little dated but we will definitely stay here again.

The service at this hotel is better than I’ve received at ultra luxury places. The staff is really smart and thoughtful.
I particularly appreciated that they made up the rooms early in the day. I’ve stated too many hotels where the rooms had not been made up at 4 PM.
One morning, we simply threw on clothes to go to the excellent coffee shop across the street, New York luncheonette. I had laid out my clothes for the day on the unmade bed.
When we returned from breakfast at 9:30 AM. Our room had already been cleaned, sheets and towels, replaced and beautifully made up. Even better, the clothes that I had thrown on the bed in anticipation of using later in the day had been taken off, carefully folded, and then replaced on top of the bed which had been made. A level of service which has disappeared in most places.

We stayed here one night recently and we had a very pleasant time. Our room was comfortable and the hotel staff was friendly and professional. The location is good as it's walking distance from Grand Central Station. There are several restaurant options on the same block, as well. We'd definitely come back to the San Carlos!

We stayed during christmas week, it was amazing. The staff was amazing! And i mean EVERYONE who works there! it was safe, clean, cozy. Great for families of all ages, our group age range was 30s, teens, and a baby. It was very accommodating. They dont have a restaurant where we could get breakfast in the hotel but a lot of cafes and restaurants around the hotel so that helped out.

unlike some other reviews that I didn't understand the reason for, this hotel is very old and has nothing upgraded. The first thing you notice when you enter the room is a bad smell. when I went to the reception and asked them to change or upgrade our room, he said all of the rooms were the same

Clean, comfortable, hotel with very spacious rooms (especially for NYC) in an extremely convenient location for exploring and transportation. Service was professional. Extra perks like bottled water and access to streaming services, Netflix, etc. should be a given here in 2023!

The San Carlos was not only a boutique hotel but an amazing sanctuary at days end. We were not only very comfortable but the staff made us welcomed every time we entered the building by greeting us as we entered and exited. I recommend this hotel highly and hope to return there and feel good about that decision. Also the choices of the rooms was perfect. We were all very happy and comfortable. Thank you thank you! ❤️
