Nice little place. Cute and gives you the taste of the French quarter you're looking for. Evening manager was awesome. Will try to go back on our next trip

The hotel itself is fantastic. The location amazing. Would not change a thing. It would have been the perfect stay had there not been confusion regarding incidentals. The parking was meant to have been taken out of the amount on hold. Instead it was charged again. Checking out took almost an hou without a resolution. Had to wait for the original charge to hit the account again days later. Despite this, I would not wish to disuade anyone from staying at this hotel. I am hoping this was a one off mxup and would stay again.

I loved the outdoor courtyard and the way that the hotel was built around it. Staff members were very pleasant and really made me feel welcome.

This was the true French quarter experience. There was no elevator and the entrances were a bit of a challenge. Otherwise it was all we expected it to be . The history of the area was wonderful. The only real drawback was the poor heat on cooler nights.

It’s a fun hotel lots of history and interesting. Be ready for a lot of stairs and LOUD neighbors at 2am.

We stayed in “Superior room” #16 on the 4th floor, which was awesome and quiet once we got there each time, but it’s a LOT of stairs. Perry at the front desk was so nice to offer carrying up all of our luggage (practically insisted)! If we were to come again, I would request deluxe room 1 or 2 near the fountain (if you just need a small room). Superior Room 25 is right by the front desk and is larger, but the TV is in the closet. Haha
Our family loved staying at Hotel Royal, and we would definitely stay here again in the future. There’s a coffee shop across the street, and Rouse’s Market is a short walk away. If you prefer quiet and are pretty fit, the top floor is where it’s at. Some people in our party who stayed on the 1st and 2nd floor said it was kind of noisy in the morning and they needed earplugs. Just know that the hotel is almost 200 years old, so there are definitely some quirks (water takes time to get hot, some uneven floors etc). I would just recommend calling ahead of time and asking what floor you’re going to be on so you know what you’re in for and can prepare. Awesome place!

Literally the only possible downfall was that there was no elevator and getting our luggage to third floor. Room is small, but we weren’t there much at all. Staff was nice.

The lack of electrical outlets around the bed was pretty disappointing. But other than that, everything else was tolerable.

Very historical hotel! Room was comfortable and well furnished.

I used to stay here before Covid. They have been closed for several years and finally reopened and they appear to have taken the opportunity to update the rooms. The Royal is at a good location away from the noise of Bourbon St but close to coffee shops, restaurants, and shopping on Royal St. Be aware they have a lot of stairs and no elevator.

There is no elevator, but other than that, its awesome.

There was a problem with the room on our arrival, but Neal was great and took care of it immediately. Great older hotel in a great location. Great funky charm. Close enough to walk to everything, but far enough from the Bourbon St craziness to sleep at night. Highly recommended.

The staff was very friendly. The rooms were clean. The hotel has character. The only negative thing that I can say is that the rooms are small. But we didn’t go to New Orleans to spend time in our room, only to sleep. It was our second time to stay there. The location is great.

The staff was great, very very pleasant for every interaction. The property was recently renovated and we were impressed with how clean it was.
The only things we didnt care for at the property was a lack of elevator, not a big deal if we were on the 2nd floor or something but it was 59 stairs to our room everytime, if my wife and i were 10 years older or had bad knees/hips it could've been a real issue. Also this isnt property specific but the lack of parking was a big detractor. There was a shared lot for hotels in the area but a $45/night price tag was steeper than i wouldve liked.

It was 45° when we visited and the heat didn’t work properly in our room, I reported it three times and did not get it resolved therefore was very cold both nights. Also housekeeping did not come back to do our room

The building is over 200 years old. The plank floors the high ceilings the balcony, beautiful ! And just 2 blocks from the French Quarter… yet your off the beaten path on a nice quiet street to escape when needed. FYI there are no elevators but wasn’t an issue for me. The only thing that would have been nice is a mini fridge in the room.

I was able to get into a bigger room during my stay without additional charges. The front desk staff was very friendly.

This is a beautiful hotel walking distance from bars and restaurants. The room had a hole in the bathroom ceiling and the bath tub stopper would not work.

Hot water in shower took forever to heat up and then did not last long. No elevator. Multiple stairs. Loved the location for my purposes.

We really enjoyed our stay in Room 6. We appreciated the refrigerator for cold drinks and the coffee maker to get us started in the morning. The room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. We wish the sink had been bigger and perhaps a shelf and a couple of hooks to make bathroom/shower business a little easier. We loved the vintage feel of the property. The stairs were a bit of a challenge for us but we took them slow and got along fine. We want to give a special mention and thank you to Perry, the evening desk clerk. He was very friendly and helpful. He answered our questions, made recommendations and helped arrange our transportation back to the airport. We loved the location and walked everywhere. We would recommend this hotel to anyone as long as they can navigate the stairs.

Location and it was quiet.

The rooms are small. The deluxe is still tiny, not sure how small even a standard room would be. I recommend upgrading to a larger room. Location is fantastic. Friendly, helpful staff. Beds are super comfy.

Property was in a good location, clean and quiet. Flights of stairs were a little challenging with baggage.

Great location, beautiful property. However there’s no guarantee you’ll have running water for your stay…especially if you’re in one of the top floor rooms. Just be aware of that. The staff were all great except for the property manager. He was terrible and offered no help at all with the water situation. We made the best of it with bottled water but I wouldn’t stay here again.

Fantastic location, building with wonderful character. Macy was fabulous when we arrived, helping us bring our suitcases up 3 flights of stairs. No elevator! (Part of the charm) we had the balcony to ourselves. The room was extremely sparsely furnished. A couch or two chairs would have been nice to sit on. You could only sit on the bed. The bathroom was not in good shape. The faucets were wobbly, the sink unattached from the wall, the tub drain didn’t stop water from drying out. None of these ruined our enjoyment of the spaciousness and wonderful bed and ceiling fan.

The hotel was historic with lots of charm and character. Please note no elevator and may old narrow flights of steps. Also make sure you book a deluxe or better. We booked standard and it was what the hotel calls a “petite” room. It was very hard to move around as a couple. Location was great. Hotel offers parking for $50 and it’s less than a block away. Would book again in Deluxe room or larger.

Pros:
1) Staff was very friendly and very helpful
2) Room was very clean
3) Easy access to Bourbon Street
4) Just out of reach of the loudest parts of Bourbon Street, which meant it stayed quiet in the room
5) The way it's set up feels very safe
6) I think they newly renovated the place, because the floors and bathroom were good quality material
7) The in-room a/c unit was a beast!!!
Cons:
1) As a historic hotel, it shows. No elevator means a lot of stairs if, like us, you get the 4th floor. Got strong calves from the workout!
2) TV was just awful. Had to stand at a very specific angle off the bed to turn it on/off, change channel, volume
3) Water pressure was dismal. It was like a sad version of water coming out of the shower head. I've stayed in 10 story hotels before, there are definitely ways to keep water pressure up.
4) The description for parking on Expedia is a little misleading. It's not $47/day plus tax for "Valet Parking" - instead, it's $47/day plus tax to use their parking lot regardless. Learned this after the fact when the charge hit my credit card for the 3 day stay. Would have liked the parking price built in to the stay up front.

We love this hotel and have stayed multiple times. It’s an old, yet refurbished building with lots of charm, creaky hardwood floors and marble bathrooms. Just what you expect from a French Quarter old fashioned hotel. Our tub was huge with jacuzzi jets. Our room was spotless clean and the staff was amazing. The bed was very comfortable.
Downsides. No mini-fridge. We had one in our rooms before and we’re surprised we didn’t this time. No ports for phones etc. just regular plugs. Our balcony door was the wonderful old fashioned type where floor to ceiling windows roll up. Only the bottom window locked. The top window had no lock and it would have been easy to open and enter from the shared patio. Felt less than secure.

We love this Hotel. We stayed in 2018 before our wedding and wanted to stay again for our 5 year anniversary. There was a bit of a snafu when we arrived. The room we were assigned to wasn't allowing us in, it took a bit of time but we were eventually reassigned to another room that was wonderful. The staff was very nice and accommodating, and the area cannot be beat. We will be back for sure but next time with a balcony!

The hotel was not at all what we expected. We were checked in and given a room on the second floor. Upon entering the room, it was noted that it was in fact someone’s else’s room with their possessions inside. We were then moved to the 4th floor through what can only be described as a labyrinth of stairways to be greeted with a floor that tilted so badly the luggage began rolling across the floor when released, the bathroom was dirty with hair visibly on the floor and the same could be said for the rest of the room. We checked out shortly after and stayed elsewhere

Wonderful time at the Hotel Royal. The property was clean. The staff friendly and responsive. I hope to stay here again next year.
