The location is excellent. They also allowed me early check in which I was grateful for. They have a dedicated bag storage room. And the price is very good!
The property is very run down and in need of a refurbishment. Lots of other reviews mention cleanliness as being an issue here, I would say the hostel itself is very clean, the cleaning staff did a fantastic job everyday, but it feels dirty because the property is old and not maintained well. The pictures they show on booking.com are outdated. However, I did see some work being carried out in the common areas.
The staff were nice, but I had some minor issues with communication in English.
Overall I had a good time here.

The Santa Maria Hostel has an excellent location right in the heart of Fort Kochi, which made exploring very easy. Rooms were decently clean and the staff tried to be helpful.

I stayed at Santa Maria Hostel for 5 days during the Kochi Biennale and it was one of the best decisions I made. The location is fantastic just a short walk from Fort Kochi Beach, Chinese fishing nets, and all the main attractions, yet the area feels calm and peaceful.

The location was very close to the main Biennale venue and also close to the beach. It had a nice crowd and good food as well.
The dorms had very few fans to help with the heat, plus too many mosquitoes.
