The Gate Hotel Fukuoka by Hulic

Everything about this hotel was fantastic, from the location, spacious room, and beautiful views to the excellent service, breakfast, and restaurants. A taxi from the airport to the hotel costs around ¥3,000 and takes about 30 minutes. It’s worth considering, especially if you have large luggage, as the subway can be very crowded during rush hours. Nevertheless, the hotel is directly connected to the subway. If you exit through the West Exit, you will immediately see Exit 5, where an elevator takes you directly to the hotel lobby on the 19th floor. If you exit through the East Exit, you will arrive at One Fukuoka Hotel and need to walk another three minutes to find Exit 5. The surrounding area is full of coffee shops, restaurants, supermarkets, and department stores, all within walking distance. Breakfast is served semi-buffet style, with three main dishes to choose from, including a traditional Japanese option. Everything was delicious. Dinner at the hotel restaurant was another highlight, with gorgeous views, excellent food, and reasonable prices. The bathroom deserves special mention because of its thoughtful design and attention to detail. Everything seems to have been carefully considered for travelers, from the extra towels to the double sinks, well-designed shower door that prevents water from splashing out, and bidet toilet functions. A small but comfortable longue for free snacks and drinks. These little details make a real difference to the comfort of a stay. This is a wonderful hotel that combines convenience, comfort, excellent dining, and thoughtful design. We would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Fukuoka!

The only minor downside is that most TV programs are in Japanese. Although five international channels are available, you need your own YouTube or Netflix subscription to enjoy more content. Room rates can also be a little high during peak seasons, so booking early is recommended.

My hub n I love the size of the room, we could open 3 pieces of luggage easily. We love that 2 pillows were given for each bed without asking. We also love the choice of breakfast available n the high ceiling at the restaurant. All the food consumed there was delish! We were not caught in the rain when it rained for 2 days as the lift brought us to B2 level which was linked to an underground shopping area. N of course, we had a great time shopping!

There was only some gym equipment available.

Superb location, once you get out from Tenjin Station, the lobby entrance is just in Exit 5. There is a family mart at the exit of the station which is very convenient. The room is pretty large in Japan standard. Nice roof top bar. Sound proof of the room is great and TV is able to cast from your iPad. Amazing window view of the harbour.

The aircon is very hot at night, I suspect it is auto off in the middle of the night, even though I selected high speed fan and set the temperature at 21 degrees.

Location and room is generally nice

This hotel has a lot of work to do before the price is justified. The room was ready on arrival at 12pm (they mentioned no one stayed in it the night before) so they told us we could check in. They then handed us a bill to pay an extra $20 (after already spending $2500 for 3 nights) to check in to the already ready room just a couple hours early. But when questioning the charge politely, the staff member asked her colleagues. The other staff members spoke among themselves and then laughed and shook their heads. We understood in Japanese that they said to the staff member checking us in, “whatever just charge it anyway”, so that’s exactly what they did. It was only refunded after complaining to a manager later in the day. Breakfast is good and the staff there are very nice and professional. However, they have a Japanese option that is impossible to try as they only make 30 of them available per day. Why not just offer a pre-order of it instead of a lottery of who comes at 7am to rush for it? Additionally, cleaning was only done at 3pm-4pm (this is no fault of the cleaning staff, they did a great job). We had to ask in order to have it done early the next day. I would avoid any of the Gate hotel properties in Japan after this experience.
