Nestled in the mountains of Island Park, Back Country Cottage is the ideal place to rest after a day at YNP. Fishing and Yellowstone National Park are nearby! The perfect place to rest and get away from all the hustle and bustle. Newly renovated interior!
NEWLY renovated to meet the needs of our guests. You are sure to love all the personal and unique touches in Back Country Cottage. There are a few finishing touches (like outlet covers) that were not complete before taking listing photos. Brand new flooring, paint, windows, trim and linens!
Downstairs: Western-themed. Spacious living room with a large Roku TV and comfortable seating. Small bedroom (with a sliding barn door) has a queen bed. Pack-and-Play is included. Half bathroom with a washing machine and dryer available for guest use. Tide pods and dryer sheets are provided.
Upstairs: Woodland/rustic-themed. Small living room with a Roku TV and a couch with a pull-out bed. Bedroom with one twin bunk bed and an additional twin bed. Connected to the bunk room is a bathroom with a tub and shower. Luxury bath towels, hand towels, and makeup towels are provided. The bathroom also has a door to the kitchen. The kitchen is charming and functional with a small fridge/freezer, a small propane range and oven, mini dishwasher, and a sink. The kitchen has a Keurig as well as all of the standard kitchen items for basic meals and dining. Provided are K-cups with coffee and hot chocolate. There is a grill available for guest use on the deck with a few grilling tools. There is a picnic table outside as well.
Loft: From the entry way upstairs there is a ladder to access the loft. This loft has been created from the attic and it is not tall enough for an adult to stand up. It is ideal for children and teenagers or anyone who is comfortable with climbing up the ladder and sleeping on a mattress on the floor. Two twin mattresses. We have received good feedback about the loft as it is an exciting part of the stay for children. Some toys and books are provided for the guests to use.
Outdoors
From the moment you step out of your vehicle, you will immediately be welcomed to Island Park by the smell of the fresh mountain air! In the spacious wooded area outside, you will find a large fire pit with seating to roast s’mores, space to play horseshoes, and a comfy hammock. The yard is our own little piece of the wild and you are likely to see wildflowers and moose right outside! You are welcome to camp on the property if you are interested. There is space to park small trailers, four wheelers, and multiple vehicles on the property as long as they are off the road. We ask that you do not bring RVs and if your vehicle count exceeds three, please notify the host beforehand.
Recreation
If you’re looking for a peaceful weekend getaway, Island Park can offer you serenity. There is nothing better than feeling that fresh mountain air in your lungs! Adventurers will also be pleased to hear about all of the natural opportunities for recreation! Nearby the cabin is hiking, fishing, snowmobiling, boating, sightseeing, and more! Henry’s Lake to the North, and West Yellowstone just 40 minutes away.
The cabin is about 950 square feet and it can feel crammed to some guests. Other guests have loved it! Our best reviews have come from small families with children, people looking to spend their days exploring Yellowstone, and small groups of friends looking for a place to run away to.
For your time spent indoors, there are two Roku TVs. The Wi-Fi connection is excellent. A few guests have even worked remotely during the pandemic.

We had an awesome stay and we would book it again for another vacation. It was quite and peaceful just what my family needed

There are a few fun things about this cabin. The TV's and Roku options are a nice touch, and the fire pit and hammock were great. There were S'mores packets waiting for us. The basement area with the TV was clean and comfortable and the upstairs bathroom was obviously recently remodeled.
However, there were quite a few things that were unacceptable with the cleanliness of this cabin. The loft was filthy. The floor looked like it had not been vacuumed in months and the bedspread was very dirty so it obviously had not been washed. My kids were excited about the loft, but we could not use it because it was so dirty so we avoided it the whole week. The garbage in the downstairs bedroom was also full. The bed frame on the bed in the master bedroom was broken and the bed was very uncomfortable. There was a pillow under the bed with blood stains on it. Also, the path to the fire pit is dangerous. There are several spots of rebar sticking up that looked like they were there to hold old stairs that have rotted out. Both my daughter and husband tripped on them and fell trying to get down the path to the fire pit.
Overall, this is a very nice property, but it seems as if the owners have just started renting it out and probably need to fix a few more things like the stairs and the bed before it can be considered a great place to stay. Also, a new cleaning crew is definitely recommended.
