One of the best parts about Fern Grotto Inn is our central location. Why limit yourself to Princeville or Poipu, when you can stay with us and easily drive to both the North and South Shores within 45 minutes?
For a little outdoor fun, check out our COMPLIMENTARY two-person KAYAK, SUPs and “his and her” BIKES. The coastal bike trail is only one block from Fern Grotto Inn, and we’re conveniently located right on the Wailua River and of course, there’s plenty to do locally—we’re only one block from the pristine swimming beach at Lydgate Park, and Kapaa’s many stores and restaurants are just a few miles away.
The real attraction of Fern Grotto Inn is our secluded, vintage plantation cottages. Originally constructed in the 1940s and 1950s, All our cottages have been fully renovated with your comfort in mind while still retaining their authentic Hawaiian charm. We've outfitted each one with chic but cozy island-inspired decor.
Our cottages are surrounded by a lush, tropical garden, which, combined with the fact that our property is very quiet and private, creates the feeling that you’re in old-time Hawaii, far from civilization. It’s the perfect setting for your honeymoon or other romantic getaway.

My husband and I stayed in Kauai for 4 nights and could not have picked a better place to stay! We stayed at the canal cottage. Paul keeps a well maintained property and our cottage was clean and very tidy. It was spacious, well stocked with all the kitchen gadgets you could need, the beds were so comfortable and the best part was two full bathrooms! Paul and his wife are wonderful hosts; they attended to every detail from bed linens and towels to beach supplies and laundry facilities. The grounds were very private and we felt like we were at home. The bbq grill was great to have to have the option to dine in. Paul's wife also makes homemade indian dishes that you can order. Unfortunately we did not have a chance to try it but I am sure it would have been wonderful! Our only wish is that we could have stayed longer! The location is absolutely perfect... right in the middle of the east coast of the island makes the drive north or south easy. I would not want to stay in any other location. If you are looking for a private, comfortable and relaxing vacation retreat, I am sure you will find one of the cottages the place to be.

The stay at the Fern Grotto Inn was very pleasant. The hosts were very nice, and I can't think of a single complaint (except the roosters showing off at 3 am - but that's part of Kauai's charm!).
What we really liked: hosts provided "beach" accessories to their guests, nice spacious shower, really decent kitchenette and bed was comfortable. It was a perfect spot for us to stay - close to everything (centrally located), and had everything two active people (who like to hike/swim/climb/kayak/insert whatever else will get you bruised and dirty here) might need during vacation (including washer/dryer available for use - that was a HUGE plus).
Overall highly recommended, I know we will be back for more :)
