Further afield, visit Bodmin, an ancient town with a famous moor of the same name, offering spectacular views and mysterious rock formations and craggy tors. The town has a heritage steam railway and enthralling Jail Experience, whilst the Camel Trail, 18 miles of mainly flat pathways all the way to Padstow, can be enjoyed on a hired bicycle. Liskeard, a former stannary town, has many shops, pubs and restaurants.

To the south, the beaches at Downderry and Seaton are your nearest with sparkling waters and stunning vistas. Polperro and Looe, both once a haven for smuggling, are a must visit, whilst Fowey, set within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is a delight, with narrow streets, boutique shops and restaurants. With Devon and the historical naval city of Plymouth, beautiful Dartmoor and the wonders of the Tamar Valley, your only dilemma will be where to start first.
