Hilton Burau Bay Langkawi Resort

Absolutely incredible. The photos do not do it justice. Surrounded by beautiful tall mountains and extremely close to cable car/ waterfalls. Saunas and hot pools free to use for hotel guests and the gym is beautiful. Good dining options on site that are delicious but reasonably priced, and the breakfast is worth it. Staff were amazing and would recommend this pocket of perfection to anyone

The location, grounds, swimming pools and beach were as expected for a resort of this standard and price. The cooking in the Italian and Chinese restaurants is exemplary. The room was very comfortable and elegant, again as expected from a new Hilton resort. Views into the mountains from the eastern side are very beautiful. The staff listen and act, the front-facing people are evidently well schooled. Would we return? Yes, if there weren’t so many other places on our to-see list, and our time was more free from responsibilities.

Many of the rooms on the SW corner of the west wing overlook an area of forest that has been badly damaged during the construction of the hotel and scarcely repaired. It‘s a very depressing view (in my eyes), especially if one is expecting a lush, rainforest environment. We unfortunately had to complain on arrival, management relocated us to the east wing without too much of a discussion. During the low season, the hotel runs corporate events. Both the Italian and the Chinese restaurants, and the beach-facing bar were closed for one evening each during our four-night stay. This is really hard as a paying guest to accept. Management comped us an evening meal in compensation, this was a welcome surprise. There are insufficient ceiling fans in the outdoor breakfast area. Those that have been provided aren’t aligned with the tables, bringing little benefit. The lighting in the rooms is operated by the most complex switching system I‘ve ever experienced, and I‘m a veteran of brand-new, middle-eastern hotels. It takes a while to work out how to turn them all off at night. The English electrical sockets in the room don’t accept European plugs. Management provided me with an adapter to keep my laptop - required for work - alive. People may judge my comments as finicky, but I believe that one can begin to expect near-perfection at this end of the market. Management certainly responded very positively to my remarks, full marks to them!

State of the art. Top of the range service. The place is clean, a beautiful island.

There isn’t anything I didn’t love about it.

Excellent facilities and location but let down by terrible service - especially the front desk staff - they had to back track after being caught out in a lie.
