There are plenty of family-friendly walks nearby, including Rydal Cave, Loughrigg Fell, and the scenic lake walks at Tarn How, all within 5 miles. Brockhole on Windermere, 5 miles away, is the gateway to an adventure park and activities on and off the water. Alternatively, The World of Beatrix Potter and the nostalgic Haverthwaite Steam Railway are both less than 15 miles away.

The shallow bay is safe for taking a quick dip and paddleboarding. There is a private jetty available for those wishing to launch a dinghy, canoe or kayak (with prior arrangement). Private parking is available for two cars in the woodland car park opposite the cottage.
