Publick House Historic Inn and Country Motor Lodge

Attended a Halloween event at OIde Sturbridge Village with family. We are members of the Village, attend several events there a year, always choosing the Publick House for lodging. The Inn had several events happening at once. including weddings, bridal showers, and bus tours. There was a line waiting when I arrived to check in. Reception staff was excellent, processing all those checking in to the property in a quick and efficient manner. The value of a room in New England in the fall in a prime location was excellent. Right across the street was a farmer's market which was charming.

The only issue I ever have on this property is with the vending machines. They don't accept cards and barely accept cash. My soda was warm and flat right out of the machine. The machines are old and inefficient. I believe a new vendor is in order, which has nothing to do with the wonderful quality of the Inn itself. I gave this feedback to staff who accepted it with grace and efficiency, saying management would be informed.

Room was spacious and clean with fridge and microwave.

Arrived at my 2pm checkin time. Staff said it's not guaranteed so come back at 3 even though i had en email guarantee. retrain staff. The lodge had no water pressure. They boast free continental breakfast but the food is behind glass with a long line. eyeroll. i probably wouldn't return.

Beautiful grounds. Convenient stopping for the night with dinner and coffee in the morning.

Rooms are a little oldish but i felt comfortable in them.

The property itself looks very pretty. The check-in counter is very crowded and small. But there is plenty of staff.

The real problem was I was given a room that smelled of cigarette smoke. So I had to go back back-and-forth to the staff to get someone out there to verify that yes it was smoky and finally a staff member came out and they did switch me, but they switched me to a different kind of room that had a very noisy air conditioner. The beds itself were very comfortable. But the whole going back-and-forth was pretty distressing. And then it advertises the pool was open and then they said that they didn’t have the pool open after Labor Day, but that was not advertised.
