Hotel Rural El Mondalón

The location carries something magical about it — maybe it’s the hills behind it, leading to caves and beautiful paths, or maybe it’s the way it felt local, woven into its surroundings.

One out of our 3 days there: Just a little too loud noises coming from something that could be a school across the street

The hotel has its own vibe. Its build in former farm and surrounded by vineyard. Each room has a separate entrance from outside. As result in 8 days we met other people only twice. There is plenty space for car parking. Famous Bandama is only few minutes to drive, you are staying on "outside" of former volcano. If you travel by car its very easy to access North or South of Gran Canaria, almost every part of island you can reach in 40 min. Airport is 20 min from hotel by car. Large bathroom with very good water pressure. Each room has 2 bath robs, 2 towels for swimming pool, 2 towels for bath, 2 towels for hands and 1 floor towel. As the floors are from stone, its wise to take slippers with you. Very good and clean pool. Breakfast - dont expect Radisson or Ritz breakfast, typical Spanish breakfast, bread, meat, butter, jam, ham, some sweets, 2 types of cheese, good coffee. If you want eggs - you have to ask and they will be freshly made.

The only thing, if you stay on ground floor, then you can hear neighbors walking above you :)

Staff, facilities & breakfast all first class

No option to eat at the hotel - and given it's rural location, there's nothing really easily walk-able for food & drink.

We enjoyed the tranquility of the hotel, but it was really not as expected. It was clean and there were towels for the room and the pool. Bottles of water were available at breakfast for the room.

Our big problem with the hotel was the lack of a restaurant. We only found out when we messged to ask if we could reserve a table (as per the instructions with our booking) only to be told that there was no restaurant (it had clearly closed since our booking). There is no restaurant within walking distance and the nearest one is not walkable - it's a short winding drive. Other restaurants are quite a bit further.
