A Ryokan in a unique location. We decided years ago that we wanted to visit the Kurobe gorge train, but we needed to stay two nights. We found this Ryokan and it did not disappoint. It lies beautifully in the gorge close to the dam with a good view of the bridge, the train, and the dam area. Its a traditional Ryokan, so if you speak a little Japanese or come prepared about what to do, then it will greatly help your stay. It was our first time in a ryokan so we prepared accordingly. As westerners you will likely be the only one here, but you will enjoy your stay even more because of it! The hotel is older, but well maintained too. The beds are amazing(futons), the food even better, and of course the views are one of the best we had in all Japan. There is a shuttle bus too but reserve it in advance. Protect this hidden gem and enjoy your stay!

The hotel is a bit older which you will note during your stay.

The location. The staff were very friendly helpful and professional. The outside onsen was wonderful because of the location

It was the most expensive night I had in my trip and clearly the hotel had seen better days! I don’t mind old, faded , repaired or traditional but I don’t like tatty- things not repaired or replaced when needed, gives the impression of uncared for. I was looking forward to breakfast but it wasn’t as nice as I expected or eaten elsewhere. I have eaten better from convenience stores… And for the price I paid felt unsatisfactory
