St Nicholas Hotel Colchester

The location was good for access to town and Charter hall. It was nicely decorated and the bathroom was clean. The shower was particularly nice. The card access made it feel secure and safe. The night porter was very nice as well.

The room was very hot. Though a fan was provided it was loud. Only 1 window out of 2 would open. Outside was very noisy which we expected some noise being in the main part of town. So this meant if we closed the window to help with the noise, we would overheat. If we keep them open we are kept awake because of the noise. When finally we fell asleep after the noise had subsided we were woken up by council workers moving the bollards and bits outside at 3:30 in the morning.

Conveniently situated, rooms spacious and clean. Reception staff as helpful as they could be. Breakfast lovely.

Just minor things first room we had the hook was hanging off in shower room so nowhere to hang towels. Second room to remote didn’t work, we emailed to let them know and later received a response to say someone has been over but we didn’t hear the door. Very noisy during the night due to people shouting in street but thats just unfortunate

It was ideally located for a visit to Colchester castle.

It didn’t realise it was an unstaffed property and to get your key, reception and breakfast you had to walk up the road to a different hotel. The shower was cold. There were nasty stains on the floor and wall. It was very noisy at night
