The Sukosol Hotel

Location, room comfort, facilities, and staff all excellent.

WiFi was not always reliable.

This is a beautiful hotel - the greenery and vibe reminded me a bit of Raffles in Singapore, and the lobby and decorations make it feel very luxurious. The room was extremely spacious with an old-world feel - little touches like the drawer of the desk containing writing paper and envelopes. The location is good - there's a train station and a 7-eleven right next door which is handy. A taxi to the airport and to the main sights is also inexpensive (though the train to the main sights is probably better when there's lots of traffic). The porters are extremely friendly and helpful. I had two good nights' sleep here - it was super quiet! Two windows in the room made it bright and it was a good view of the city. Also, I could look down and see the swimming pool on the 6th floor so I could see if it was busy or not. I didn't have breakfast or any meals there, so couldn't comment on that.

While the room was generally spotless, there were a couple of (definitely not my own) hairs in the bath. Easily washed away though, and everything else was very clean. The plug sockets should probably be replaced - the one in the bathroom only worked intermittently so you need to dry your hair in the bedroom. The bedroom ones also seem rather old. The light in the wardrobe is handy but I couldn't get it to switch off at all on the second night because the door didn't close properly (even the first night took me ages to get it to stay off, but there must be a trick to it!). Something to be aware of - you have to give a deposit when you arrive and they don't accept visa debit cards (because if they do, you get charged apparently) so I had to scramble around trying to find fifty euros in cash. If you don't have a credit card with you, make sure you have some Baht, USD, Euros etc in cash to give them. Also, they don't provide slippers (which is fine, but if you've been to similar hotels in SE Asia, you might be expecting them, so bring your own).
