Alton House Hotel

The room was fantastic; however, we did upgrade to the large room. Our friends had the smaller room and said it was a little too small.

The staff could not be any more helpful, fantastic at reception and in the restaurant. We really enjoyed our two nights stay, food and drinks, at very good prices and portions.

ALL of the staff were welcoming, helpful, polite, friendly and professional. A real credit to the hotel. It's a beautiful building with ample space to park. The evening meal was delicious, from a decent choice of meals. Prices were reasonable. The breakfast was a wide choice of food including cereals, croissants, muffins, brown or white toast, jams, marmite, 4 different fresh juices, coffee, tea, full cooked breakfast. All self serve and refreshed when empty. Well worth the extra expense on top of the room. Couldn't fault the choices.

Location and price

Had an evening meal there. Good value but very poor quality. Chips not cooked properly as over done. Fish was a cheap packet fish and tasteless.

The mattress is so uncomfortable. They are soft and it ruins your posture at night. I had no windows in my room, just a balcony door. BUT, I needed cool air at night, there’s no fan or aircon, so it got really stuffy at night and I woke up sweating and didn’t feel rested
