Ambassador Thermal Motel

What attracted us were the good reviews and the location. We were only staying one night in Rotorua for a training event at the Sportsdrome. We need somewhere close to the Sportsdrome and where we could also easily walk into town. So, Ambassador motel ticked the box for both these. We didn't need anywhere fancy, just with all the basics - done well. And that's what the reviews told us they did well. The beds were comfy, so we all got a good night sleep. Which we all needed as we were training all weekend! The shower was powerful and hot, and the kitchen met all our needs. The location was quiet - although it was on the corner of two roads, next to the big lakeside park. In winter/spring the room was nice and warm.

Spacious high ceiling room including sitting area, fully fitted kitchen, spacious bathroom, and a balcony. Although parking was first come first serve, we had a parking spot for the duration of our stay. Netflix, etc. available. Convenient location to eating places, spas, gardens, and Rotorua Lake.

Room is not new so facilities are old and carpet is old but everything worked fine and the room was clean and spacious. Sulphur smell is strong on this side of Rotorua but it comes and goes. It was quite warm in the room and the A/C wasn't cooling as well as it should but it may be because of the spacious high ceiling room.

The room had everything needed. We struggled to get the TV to work, but it did work. The pool was so warm we didn't think we would be getting in on such a chilly night but it was beautiful and we had it to ourselves which was a treat. The views were lovely. The location is very good, perfect for dance comps which we could walk to.

The place is a bit out dated. The stairs on one side are extremely narrow so a little awkward- if you're taking bags up and down you're better to go around the other side. A light went out on the first night, I was too busy at comps and forgot to mention to the staff, but it just gave a less than ideal first impression.
