La Guaca Hostel Santa Marta

We had a really comfortable stay here. The room was remarkably spacious, offering plenty of cupboard space and storage room for our backpacks, along with a comfortable bed. In a place as hot and humid as Santa Marta, the air conditioning was fantastic and worked very powerfully, so much so that we actually had to turn it down a notch at night. The hostel itself feels completely safe and secure with good gate security, even though there is no overnight reception staff. The shared kitchen was well equipped, and the included breakfast was a lovely touch. The showers were comfortable, and while there is no hot water, that is very standard for coastal Colombia and actually refreshing after a hot day out. The neighbourhood is peaceful, and while it is not right in the centre, getting to the action is quick and affordable. It is just a cheap moto ride via Uber if you are solo, or a quick Uber ride if you are travelling as a pair. Staff were super nice and talked English.

Not much at all, as we really enjoyed our time. Just a couple of minor observations for future guests: the fridge in the kitchen was quite full, so fridge space for personal groceries was limited to a small corner. Additionally, the immediate surrounding streets can feel a bit quiet and isolated late at night, so taking an Uber back after dark is the easiest and most sensible option.

The young woman at the reception was super friendly and helpful. The room and bathroom were spacious, and the air conditioning worked really well. The hostel is about a 20-minute walk from the center of Santa Marta, or a short Uber ride for around 12k. We were also able to store our luggage while we visited Tayrona, which was very convenient. Overall, we had a pleasant stay and amazing value for money (incl breakfast) would recommend it.

Staff were very helpful, the place was kept clean and there was plenty of locker storage! And the cat was of course the highlight.

It is BOILING. It is very frustrating not being able to sit around the hostel during the day without sweating. During this humid weather the air conditioning in the rooms should be left on 24/7, not at 9pm at night.

The personal is not attentive or polite the breakfast is just very simple and was not well seasoned. Need more varieties on the breakfast and more polite owner
