Alfieri Bed & Breakfast

We stayed at the Alfieri Bed and Breakfast for two nights, and used it as a base to visit the sites in Pisa. It is situated on the outskirts of the town and unless you are confident and competent in using public transport you would need a vehicle to get around. The building itself was originally a monastery and has now been divided into separate dwellings. We found it exactly as we expected as it is advertised and it was both characterful and full of Tuscan charm . I believe that there are three guest bedrooms, all on the ground floor. Ours was clean, tidy and comfortable, quite suitable for our needs and we found it an ideal base. We truly felt that we were quests in someone’s home. The breakfast is continental style , coffee, cakes , pastries toast etc as described as we expected. The host Claudio we would describe as a very humble man, and probably the most hospitable, helpful and accommodating host that we have ever encountered in our travels. We arrived in the evening and he collected us from the airport for a very reasonable price. Later that evening he even dropped us off at a local restaurant called La Vecchia Cascina which is about 2 minutes from the bed and breakfast by car free of charge. The food was Tuscan and was very good, he collected us later again for no charge. He also offered to take us to the bus stop the next day for our trip to Pisa, the bus stop was about a ten minute walk away. If you choose to catch a bus there is about a 50 metre section on the route which is not an obvious walk way where you need to have your wits about you but for us it was not a problem then most of the walk is through a residential area. Catch the number 1+ to the central railway station and for the return journey catch number 1+ from the railway station heading for Ospedalle Cisanello , each trip cost 2 euros per person. We only allocated one day to visit the sites in Pisa which we found was sufficient.

There wasn’t anything that we didn’t like about the property, it had the quirky charm that we expected it to have.

The host was extraordinary! Great location! The room was clean, quiet, comfortable.

A breakfast was non-usual and not met an expectation!

Ottimo l'host, sempre presente, cordiale ed educato; La pulizia e l'ambiente familiare ed accogliente della struttura; La possibilità di usufruire di un parcheggio interno coperto (anche se con un piccolo extra);

Soltanto Il fatto di dover utilizzare l'auto per andare in centro.

Less than 24 hour notice for revised location. Breakfast was underwhelming( cf with other B&B stays whilst in Tuscany). My wife felt the sheets smelt musty
