Korpudalur HI Hostel

Everything was great

Korpudalur hostel is in a beautiful and serene landscape. It is very close to the town of Flateyri, where we were attending a concert, so it was very convenient location for us. This was our third stay at the hostel, so we knew what to expect. Our room on the upper floor was small, but very cosy and had a sink. The common areas on the lower floor are also very cosy; living room, dining room and kitchen with a spacious fridge where one can store food. On the lower floor there is also a shared bathroom/shower room and a second shared bathroom upstairs. The girl who welcomed us was very friendly and the check-in was smooth.

A minor nuisance is the steep staircase between the lower and upper floors, where you have to be careful not to knock your head in the ceiling.

The overall experience of staying there is something that is disappearing with "standardized" accommodation in Iceland - this is a REAL countryside hostel, old house, nature all around, absolute calm and quiet. The facilities was everything we needed, me and a friend stayed in our own room and we had a car, so we could travel to all of the wonderful villages in the majestic Westfjords. Will definitely consider staying here again.

The upper bunk bed was rather low, not possible to sit in the lower bunk bed.

The sorroundings are beautiful. Room was just OK.

We were placed not in the main building, but rather in a separate small wooden house where the kitchen is poorly equipped and the shared living are was tiny. Luckily enough there was only one couple with us (they told us the night before was stuffed and noisy). There was no oven, the stove was tiny and it took ages to cook on it, the fridge had no freezer and so on. We weren't very happy.
