The staff were extremely kind and wonderful. The location is perfect, right by the train station, bus station (buses to mt haguro), and information station. There were 2 pillows for a single room, which I always appreciate.
There is a family mart within walking distance, less than 10 minutes away. It's nice that the hotel sells some snacks and sells alcohol in vending machines!
Maybe this is too picky, but the TV didn't have apps like Netflix or allow me to share my phone screen. The bathtub was a little bit stained and looked dirty. After hiking, I needed a deep soak and it wasn't appealing.

First room was a little small and bed wasn't firm so our backs suffered so I asked for an upgrade and that was given no charge so a lovely surprise and great for the rest of our stay.
They were extremely helpful in retrieving a shoe that fell out the window 2 floors onto a roof.
I didn't like paper cups being provided instead of china cups or mugs in the room for tea making (also no milk or earl grey tea)

The hotel is right next to the station, almost the whole walk is under an awning. The staff is fast and helpful. The beds were what you expect from APA
The whole place smells like smoke, even on the non-smoking floors. The walls between rooms are so thin you'll hear talking, coughing or snoring. It's stuffy inside, but opening the window pushes air from the hallway into your room, meaning stale smoke air comes into your room rather than fresh air. Compared to other apa hotels it's way too expensive for what you get
