Penafiel Park Hotel & Spa

The staff were so friendly. We needed a very late night taxi from a venue some miles away and the night desk team sorted that for us so efficiently whereas other attendees had issues it being out in the countryside. There were a lot of things to do in the hotel - the spa/pool/ gym (tho thats quite small), various table games etc. You could see this being good for families. Our room was large with plenty of room to store clothes. Breakfast choices were really good.

Our bed was not the most comfortable. Its big but on the soft side. Also the windows don't block out a lot of noise ... ok most of the time but if there's a large event on in meeting rooms downstairs we were directly overhead so noisy. There's no facility for tea/coffee in the room ... we missed that. The outside pool has no handrail to help you get in - its one step down really but quite a big one and as a more elderly guest that didnt feel safe.

Staff were nice friendly

I really enjoyed my lovely room, both swimming pools, friendly staff, buffet on weekends!

I wish the gym would stay open, even without staff until at least 10pm.

The common areas of the hotel are good. The breakfast buffet is also ok The spa is good and probably the only reason it has 4 stars.

The rooms are run down and in need of refurbishment. Rooms are more like a 3 star at best. Overpriced dramatically.
