NH Collection Berlin Mitte am Checkpoint Charlie

The location was the best part about this hotel. Some of the staff were outstanding and very helpful and some were not. The no-serving-room daily meant 2 free drinks -soda water, beer, or soft drink- from the bar. Four fast elevators. The wifi was excellent. Room had mini bar fridge, black out curtains; two chairs; extra pillows; shower very hot. We looked onto a courtyard of other rooms -less street noise.

No place to put luggage but on the floor, no luggage rack. The bar fridge was broken and took 1.5 days to replace. Seating was terrible in the room including an office desk chair not suitable for lounging and a very big chair that took up valuable space. When I moved a few things around -lamp or phone- loads of piled dust. The room phone didn't work to call reception, room service or housekeeping. Super high priced for marathon weekend -of course and to be expected for all hotels- but $1,000 AUD per day was a lot for what we got.

Good central hotel. A lot of the rooms look into a large inner courtyard. AC was good (and much needed) during an unusually warm summer. Hotel is in south of Mitte and closer to some of the art galleries and other cultural sites in Kreuzberg.

There was a weird sewer-y smell coming up from the drains in the bathroom on two days. I've encountered this in some older German office buildings and unis, but never in a hotel. It was a little bit gross but it'd go away when you used the shower.

Nice hotel, nice room. I had a balcony so I managed to get some fresh air and sit outside in the late afternoon which was nice. Location was good, quick walk to many places around.

Not really much that I did not like, was on a business trip and in a way this felt like a business hotel.

Very helpful reception, especially pleasant Laura who tried to resolve all appeared issues, but not everything depended on her .

Poor cleaning: a lot of short dark man’s hair in the bathroom everywhere, lack of toiletries and sleepers , dirty sticky floor. After the claim , the cleaning team came and just wash the floor poorly again . Man’s hair left untouched … others things also was not changed (only sleepers and bathrobe provided). Breakfast : extremely dried omlet and eggs , even not possible to cut with knife . Omlet with vegetables it is just a spoon of canned vegetables added inside the omelette . Very untasty.
