Edinburgh Holiday Guest House

The room was basic but warm, clean and spacious. Tea and coffee were available. The bathroom was clean. Breakfast was excellent. The member of staff was very friendly and helpful. The guest house was on a regular bus route and about a 20 minute walk from The Royal Mile. The room was excellent value for money.

Great location . Buses into the centre took only 5 minutes and were very frequent. Bathroom was nice, but along a corridor. Good breakfast.

Quite a climb to the top floor. Twin room very small and tired. Window didn’t open, so a bit stuffy. Only one pillow and temperamental electrics.

The location. The street is very calm and near a more residential area with a 20min walking distance to the city center. Is the perfect combination between the touristy areas and the more local pubs and restaurants. Sometimes is nice to be able to have other options besides the busy areas. Also there are a lot of bakeries, restaurants and pubs around

The room was very small, with a small window that barely opened and a window curtain that barely covered the window held by a cord that was very old and weared off. So, if you enjoy sleeping in complete darkness, our room was not an option. The walls were full of dirty marks and even a smashed dead bug on the wall!! Clearly visible. Was the first thing I saw when I got into the room ... The cleaning staff didn't even bother. The rooms are all very close together and the locks to enter the room are very noisy so you hear everything all the time. I know this is a guest house but for a 4 night stay, it would be nice to have a change of towels at least one time ... Specially due to the fact that the extraction in the bathroom is bad and is always very humid (maybe a nice clean on the fan would help? It was full of dust). Our towels were always sort of wet...Our bathroom was leaking water from the ceiling. Edinburgh is a very expensive city. We paid £139 (€162) a night for a double room with a private bathroom outside the room (access by the shared hall). This is a very high price for the accomodation provided. However this is the cheapest we could find besides hostels. Hotels here are insanely expensive.. but still, £139 a night is a lot of money to us and we did not get the value back AT ALL. This is worth £70/night max. And I'm being generous. For this price in other European cities, we could get a 3-4 star hotel with way better accomodations. This felt like staying in someone's basement.
