Castle Park Guest House

The friendliness and attention to detail from David and Ian were priceless, and really added to my stay. From the warm welcome on arrival, through breakfast and advice on getting around, to helping me with my broken suitcase, they were always happy to help — and always with a smile. The house is pristine, full of original character and details, and has a wonderful “home away from home” feeling, which is exactly what I look for in a guest house. The bed was extremely comfortable, and I really appreciated the complimentary water, tea and coffee provided in the room. There was also a wider selection of teas, drinks and fresh food available downstairs in the living room, which added to that lovely feeling of being welcomed into someone’s home. Breakfast is an absolute must: everything is fresh, homemade and delicious. The location isn’t right in the city centre, but I found it extremely easy to walk to the main sights. There is also a bus stop directly in front of the house, which was perfect whenever I wanted to take it easy. Overall, a wonderful stay, made particularly special by the warmth and care of David and Ian. I would happily stay here again.

To be honest, nothing! I had a great stay and there was nothing I disliked. For future travellers, just keep in mind that the rooms are on the upper floors, so there are some stairs to climb (although they are wide and easy to manage). Also, luggage storage may be limited depending on when someone is at the house, as this is a guest house rather than a hotel with a 24-hour reception.

It was such a pleasure to stay at the Castle Park Guest House. Ian and David are so kind and welcoming, and they have created a guest house with a very warm atmosphere. They are considerate and helpful. The building is pretty and traditional, and the interior is beautifully kept in the same style. It’s also very clean and tidy. The food is delicious, and they had several vegan options. In addition to offering vegan alternatives, they also have a number of other initiatives for sustainability, which I appreciate.

Loved David and Ian, they helped us with everything and very accommodating when we wanted to stay and extra night during rush season. David helped us with all the best sights and restaurants and must see spots as well.
