Grand Hotel Excelsior

Very polite, helpful and friendly staff. Excellent breakfast. Pool area and bar were wonderful. Great location.

The hotel is very dated inside. The outside looks very grubby On the whole the hotel is a bit tired.

Great location on the edge of the city Steps into Valletta We found the walk fine but there is a Curtesy car to take you into town

Nothing to dislike really to be a little critical a tiny bit dated and breakfast I would say is more like a 4 star

The location is walking distance to the main old town which was great. Also very easy to get public transport and taxis. The staff were very friendly and helpful . The verandah attached to the rooms was huge and great view

The rooms were very old and need a huge upgrade. Even the shared areas need modernisation. We were informed the hotel will close in Feb 2027 for approximately 2 years for the major upgrade and modernisation. So even the hotel knows this is required.

Staff were very helpful and friendly. The bed was comfortable. Location was good. Nice to sit in the bar listening to music. Shuttle service up to the town was very useful.

The hotel is in need of modernisation. Our room was very dated, including the bathroom. The aircon was not that good. We did have to ask several times for things like milk, coffee, face cloths, soap etc or the bin to be emptied. The outdoor swimming pool area was in need of care and attention - there was a lot of grit from the tiles and the pool itself was very slippery in places. The steps leading to the sea were also rather dangerous. The position of the room was at the back end of the hotel, opposite a road and we could hear traffic in the early hours (5 -6 am). The chairs in the bar looked like they were stained in places. For the money that we paid, I would have expected it to be in better condition.
