Layout of our room was a bit odd but worked for how it was built (large foyer which wasn’t exactly well utilized for space)

Perched like a secret sanctuary directly on the centuries-old Kasbah walls, Dar Nour isn’t just a guest house—it’s an ethereal, fever-dream retreat that redefines what it means to escape. Floating high above the azure chaos of Tangier where the Mediterranean bleeds into the Atlantic, this place feels less like a hotel and more like the private, bohemian hideaway of a worldly poet who cracked the code to living in total cinematic bliss. The moment you step through its discrete wooden door off the narrow, winding alleys of the Kasbah, the entire speed of the universe shifts. Dar Nour translates to "House of Light," and it lives up to the name in ways that feel almost spiritual. Golden hour here isn't just a time of day—it’s an emotional state. Sunlight pours through antique stained-glass nooks, cascading over hand-painted zellige tiles, woven Berber rugs, book-stacked alcoves, and curated vintage art that looks like it was collected over three lifetimes of effortlessly cool living. The rooftop terrace is pure, unadulterated magic. Standing up there as the ocean breeze hits your face, you are treated to an impossible vista: the labyrinthine whitewashed rooftops of the Medina cascading down below you, the infinite expanse of the Strait of Gibraltar, and the hazy silhouette of Spain hovering on the distant horizon. When the sun dips and the call to prayer echoes across the city while the lighthouse beams flicker across the sea, time completely stops. Every room feels like its own intimate universe—cozy texturing, glowing lanterns, crisp linens, and the faint, unmistakable scent of cedar and orange blossom lingering in the air. Add in the incredible home-cooked Moroccan dinners prepared with daily market finds, served under candlelight on the terrace or in tucked-away dining nooks, and you quickly realize why people check in for two days and end up completely altering their travel plans to stay for two weeks. Dar Nour is the ultimate cheat code to Tangier.

Beautiful location in the Kasbah, with spectacular views to main bay of Tangier and beyond to Spain. Roof-top dining, bar is such an asset. Rooms of which I stayed in a couple were all beautifully done, with personal touches creating a sense of staying in an aesthete's well loved and curated home not a generic hotel. Food was wonderful, buffet offering every evening.

If you did not want to pay for the buffet there was no other eating option in the evening.

Location and desire by all the staff to deliver excellent service.

The layout of the property had it divided into multiple buildings next door to each other. Our room was basically an attic in the annex. Steps up the 3 flights were extremely narrow and dangerous. No handrail for more than half of the flights. There was a beautiful roof deck where you could get a drink, BUT with no food option, it was very windy and cold but there weren’t any heaters, and it was extremely noisy and disruptive when we tried to go to sleep. The bathroom was like an add on and there was a step up once inside. Because the tile color was the same, it was very easy to forget there was a step at all as I can document since falling when I missed the step and suffering for two days while it bruised. I was very lucky I didn’t break it. For two days, we feared I did ! And finally, breakfast started at 8.30, too late for tourists who needed to get out to meet their guides. It was clean, it was funky, the employees were terrific and helpful, but this is not a place for older people. It really is too dangerous.
