Maison Gand

Beautiful room aesthetically with comfortable bedding and quality furnishings throughout the hotel in most areas. Fantastically positioned for the station (10mins easy walk) and private parking outside, which is exactly what we needed to be able to base ourselves for a couple days to explore elsewhere as well as gorgeous Ghent. Staff very friendly, welcoming and easy to contact, thank you. Everything was very clean and housekeeping was included, plus a safe and mini fridge in the room too. Lovely garden area with plenty of seating. Air conditioning in room a bonus! There were lovely shared areas like a lounge and dining room plus honesty bar etc. We walked into the old town through the park and along the river which was around 40 mins each way but a brilliant way to see everything and make the most of the Autumn sunshine - recommended.

Although our room was beautiful it was very dark even with all the lights on, or blinds open especially in the area where the coffee machine was located meaning we had to use a phone torch to see what we were doing which wasn't ideal. There is a low and large box (we assume housing something like a boiler?) above the toilet, painted the same colour as walls and which is a hazard (in the UK this would require highlighting somehow) which we both hit our heads on more than once over the 3 days and which was awkward for taller hubby to access the loo as well. Not fun. To be honest, we felt the bathroom was a disappointment compared to everything else - mould in the shower, smell of damp which was masked by an air diffuser in the room and the toilet took ages to refill which was loud and frustrating. Our room was not soundproof - obviously we expected the noise from the trains being so close by and that wasn't an issue for us, however the door release each time someone came in the building and general noise from other guests was annoying and quite intruding at times. We didn't have breakfast as we had other plans each day but felt the prices seemed expensive for the description on the menu. Overall, we loved the city and the accommodation was perfect for what we needed this time, but we would definitely want a different room if we were to stay again in the future which would probably push us over our budget for what we feel is reasonable value to what is provided.

Very clean and tidy room with comforting decor. Room was amazing, the location was very peaceful, train station less than 10 mins walk away, bus stop 3 mins walk away. Easily accessible to local amenities, easy to get to town centre with easy public transport.

Couldn’t fault it.

Great location, easy parking, easy check in and out.

When we arrived the toilet was not as clean as we’d like. We had issues with hot water in the shower both nights (the host let us use the shower in a different vacant room). Overall the experience didn’t match the price.
