Odette is a shining star of the Westin...she cares tremendously about the guests while balancing the safety of all! We have been here for two weeks and have watched her work tirelessly making guests comfortable while making sure that the safety covid precautions are kept by seeing that all chairs and tables are sanitized...if I were to pick the “employee of the year”, it would be Odette. She balances fun with the liability of the corporation..a perfect balance...this is the Westin’s strength.
Unfortunately we found that the Westin is tremendously understaffed.. the employees work so hard to try to keep up with the demand. The servers have to work the beach and the pool deck and cannot provide adequate service to both...they try, but just not enough staff!!! This is a management issue and not an employee issue.
One of the biggest disappointments is the office staff. We rented a villa which is across the street up on a big hill...we are totally dependent upon transportation to/from the resort...oftentimes when we call the office the phone goes unanswered....we call the concierge and the phone goes unanswered...which causes the guest to become anxious. When you have reservations, they do not provide adequate transportion due to the staffing issues...once again, this is a management problem, not a staff problem and this can quite easily be rectified.
The two bedroom villa at the top of the hill was rented for two weeks. It is with great disappointment that I must say that we only received housekeeping services one time in that two week period and that was a Saturday. Vacation is a luxury and a time to relax and unwind. With housekeeping only one time during that two week period, it left the guest with the work of keeping the place clean, making the bed and emptying the dishwasher...hardly “pampering” by any means. Additionally, when we had that one service, the housekeeper individual(s) did not even empty the dishwasher, wash the floors or vacuum. We felt this was quite unacceptable!
All in all, we had a good time, but it could have been much better had everyone performed in a manner as Odette did at the pool deck.
