The location

The restaurant was disappointing

We stayed at Hotel Douro House without a car and it worked very well for that. The train station is less than a 5-min walk away, so getting there was simple. The room was also large, with a balcony offering stunning views and we loved making use of the pool as we were there in August. The location is also ideal for exploring the wine region. We took a Rabelo boat tour which allowed us to see more of the region.

The view from the room of the Douro River and vineyards was fantastic. The pool was also nice and had a great view. We also enjoyed the breakfast room and options they presented. The breakfast staff were attentive and polite. Plenty of parking for our rental car. Loved the location as a central point for port tastings.

With the exception of the breakfast servers we found the staff a bit unfriendly compared to our hotels on our trip. The bar staff were very unfriendly and in one instance a bit rude to my wife. Pool service was terrible, frequently out of towels, hard to get a drink because you had to call and wait forever. Oh and be careful using wooden lounge chairs because a few of them were in such bad shape someone could get hurt! Lastly, the room was worn, peeling wallpaper, trim board gaps, not a 5 star room.
