Hotel Metropol Basel

Location just off station square and the tram station is great as is the free travel BaselPass Great breakfast

Nobody in reception most of the time, had to go to the hotel next door to check in

Fantastic location, clean room, friendly people at the reception.

Toilet was outside of the room and I didn't read it when I was making a booking. It's quite uncomfortable. The room was small

Super convenient, really comfortable and a delicious breakfast

The location and the breakfast were the only worthwhile aspects.

I spent an hour in line just to check in; I thought things in Switzerland ran on time—I had a 5 PM appointment and ended up being late. When I booked this hotel, it clearly stated there was air conditioning, but there isn't any. They gave me a fan with an ice compartment that melted and soaked the entire carpet. The hairdryer didn't work; they fixed it the next day, but don't count on it—it’s not very good, so bring your own. The pillows didn't have cases and, naturally, smelled like someone else had used them. The location and the breakfast were the only worthwhile aspects.
