The George Hotel of Stamford

No canned music! Excellent! All the staff were friendly and very helpful. This is an hotel which likes to say "Yes".The traditional ambiance makes it a delightful environment for guests. Long may it continue! Two of the three dinners in the Oak Room were exceptionally good and good value. Breakfasts were very good, but the breakfast room itself was brightly lit and the decor not to my taste.

The decor in the breakfast room. At the final dinner in the Oak Room, I suspect the waitress was not used to dealing with crepes Suzette. The flaming was minimal, which meant the sauce was far too alcoholic. Such a pity.

Everything and the food was spectacular. Marks breakfast was above and beyond. The kidneys were such a treat at breakfast. Excellent service throughout

Beautiful hotel central to historic Stamford. The downstairs lounges are lovely to relax in. The quality of breakfast was good but there was no vegetarian cooked breakfast.

We stayed at the George for my sisters 60th birthday and were very excited about it as always something we had wanted to do. Unfortunately it did not live up to expectations. The first room we checked into was very musty and as an asthmatic I asked to change room. The staff were accommodating and we were upgraded. Unfortunately this room too did not meet expectation. The furniture is mismatched. The bathrooms need updating as there is a shower over the bath with no pressure. The wool blanket was itchy. There are no tea and coffee making facilities. Sadly the hotel is extremely overpriced and does not deliver.
