Basma Hotel Aswan

Highly recommended ! The position of the hotel is very quiet but strategic, at 10min walk from the Nile where everything starts! At breakfast and all meals there always a wide choice of food and beverages. The room was very spacious, clean and comfortable. At Basma's, Mrs Reham the hospitality Director and all her collaborators support you since your reservation, they are all super kind, patient, informative and discreet. I was travelling alone but I never felt alone. From the terrace located near the beautiful swimming pool you enjoy the magical view of the Nile, just like told in novels. What more? I will choose Basma hotel again.

We had a lovely stay at this hotel! My friend and I requested two beds which we got — we were welcomed to the hotel once we got there in a really genuinely friendly manner. All the staff we spoke with — from the front desk to guest relations to the bar and restaurant staff — were friendly, welcoming and helpful. They really made our stay! The hotel overlooks part of the Nile so it has some great views and the grounds including the pool and some green space were well maintained and pretty. (We had an amazing swim in the pool once we got there.) Our hotel room was fairly basic but clean and a good size for two people. We only stayed for one night but we would stay again and I would recommend this hotel for people visiting Aswan!

Let me start by saying all this is very minor and I'm only sharing in the interest of full transparency. The hotel is a little outdated (a LITTLE) but I didn't mind and I think makes this a more affordable top hotel. They are making some updates to the hotel so I think this will be addressed in the coming months/years — and, to be clear, we did not hear any noise from the construction/updates going on, I just saw some handyman working. The hotel is up on a hill so it's a little removed from the rest of the downtown area but we found that made the location quiet and the walk (while empty) is really quick -- you're about a 5min walk from the Old Cataract which is great if you're interested in checking that out as well. Finally, completely out of their control, but I did get a few WhatsApp messages from scammers trying to get me to confirm/rebook this hotel — BE WARY of anyone reaching out and asking for credit card information or to confirm the booking once you've made it on Booking.com.

The interior and exterior of the building is pretty. I do like the colors, paintings and landscaping. The hot water and AC worked so at least there is that. The restaurant was decent food for dinner and breakfast was good.

The customer service was bad, lots of men standing around from the baggage handlers to the people at registration looking confused and unhelpful. Front desk staff claimed that we owned them 300 EGP but couldn’t explain what for or produce a receipt so we didn’t pay it. All staff need training. Room looked like it needed some serious updating as sconces were falling off and wall paint peeling. Toilets in restaurant bathroom went on for days without cleaning due to visible feces stuck to the bowl. This place is so OVERPRICED for the quality and lack of service. Would not stay there again or recommend to others.
