Prinsenhuis

We were thrilled to find an apartment with a canal view within our budget. The space was quite large with a separate bedroom, living room with a pull-out sofa(with a surprisingly comfortable bed!), and kitchen. We were in the Coral Suite on the third floor. There was a small balcony off the bedroom overlooking the garden and a bay window in the living room overlooking the canal. The kitchen was handy for making basic meals and reheating leftovers. We stayed for a week and linens and towels were changed every few days. The location was incredibly convenient for wonderful canal walks, shops, and restaurants.

This is understandably a much older traditional Amsterdam building which was part of the charm, but some refreshing would have made it perfect. There was only one chair by the bay window overlooking the canal, which was the main highlight of the apartment. The kitchen was missing a few basic items.

The landlord was very friendly and welcoming, patient with us (we took the long route to the apartment, and he waited without complaining), and extremely generous to allow our son, who surprised us with a visit from London for 1 night with us, to stay with us without extra charge. The view from the apartment lounge/kitchen is stunning, the canal flowing past with boats, happy sounds, yet peaceful energy. We were welcomed with a free bottle of wine, as well as 2 beers. Comfortable beds, soft towels, spacious, colourful, very central location, and highly recommended.

The steep and narrow staircase can be challenging for anyone who has physical limitations. However, this is clearly and fairly stated in the booking advertisement, and we were able to be creative with our luggage up-and-down-the-stairs challenge.

My best friend and I are college students and have been friends since second grade. This was my first time in Amsterdam and his second, and my dad booked Prinsenhuis for us. Good call, Dad. Getting in was the first surprise. We'd braced for the usual scramble of finding keys and figuring out the place after a long trip. Instead the hosts made it so easy we were settled and out the door in no time. The location is great for walking, but we barely walked. We rented bikes, and there was a safe, easy spot to keep them at the house, so we biked everywhere. Amsterdam bike culture is no joke. Cyclists get their own traffic lights, mounted at bike height. One day we rode all the way to Volendam and took a ferry with our bikes. Still can't believe we pulled that off. The hosts mentioned they run on electricity only, with no gas or petrol and even sustainable laundry. Best compliment we can give: we never noticed. Isn't that the whole point? Great conservation and zero hassle for the guests. Staying in an actual canal house on the Prinsengracht made us feel like locals for a few days instead of tourists. We're already talking about coming back. Thank you, Edwin!

We really tried to come up with something. The indoor stairs are steep, but it's an 18th-century building, so what did we expect? If your knees are older than ours, take it slow.

Position is very strategic. It is in the center and 10-15 minutes walk you can reach all of the main attractions. Tram and metro are close by, in case you need them.

The apartment is limited for 4 people. The furnitures of kitchen are basic. Table is a top one and stolls are not confortable for dining.
