Seko Kato Nile View Hostel

We arrived late at 23:00 and did not know how to reach the island. We messaged the host ahead of time. He was incredibly friendly, met us personally at the pier, and explained how to take the public ferry onto the island. The hostel kitchen is very clean with complete facilities. We cooked two meals ourselves and enjoyed them a lot. The air‑conditioner ran steadily.

The price! It’s the cheapest option on the island and the owner is helpful and doesn’t try to scam you. He got us a Felucca ride for 400 EGP (8$) for an hour which is super cheap (private). If you are backpacking and need a budget friendly option: there you go!

It was not super clean. I understand that when something is that cheap you can’t expect great luxury. But the bathroom had a lot of dirt and I had to clean myself a little to put my things. I had to use my own towel as well because it was very itchy (not sure why it was 100% coton). The room was very small (again the price makes this normal) but make sure you have earplugs if you’re sensitive to noise :) Also, there is a new construction just in front of the guest house so you don’t get a direct Nile view like in the pictures anymore.

Nice small family hotel run by a Nubian family. The terrace has a great view of the Nile. Rooms are compact but comfortable. Seko was also a really great host. Great base to explore the Aswan area from. He helped us booked a trip to Abu Simbel and it was the best price we could get. He also helped friends of mine with a direct transfer back to Luxor.

Recommend bringing some insect repellent for the surrounding area at night for the mosquitos. Only other negative was that you need to walk to catch the ferry each day to go and see the attractions but it was only a short walk. Still better to be staying on Elephantine island than on the much more chaotic East Bank

Great stay with a lovely rooftop terrace looking over the river and kind service.
